| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 23, 2006 22 oz. bottle. Dark brown with a creamy white head that fades quickly. Malty and doughy aroma. Sweet with a slight roastiness, not very hoppy. It had a crisp, metallic mouthfeel. Pretty good, but doesn’t stand out as a great beer. EithCubes (2146), Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 13, 2006 Bottle. Super dark red pour with brown around the edges and a rich, lacing, rocky tan head. Aroma of roast, nuts, grape, molasses. Thick malty taste, brown sugar, grape, molasses, caramel, nuts, dates, and figs. Vinous quality, only thicker. Dry vinous aftertaste, tons of grape and malt. Smooth and creamy with a bit of terminal footsie from carbonation. Wonderfully thick and malty and not dominated by sweetness (which is often a problem with Doppelböcke); no, this is a balanced and smooth beer, full-bodided but not sludgy, a magnificent example of the style lacking only the complex fruitiness of the offerings from Andechs and Aying. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

Aroma was earthy, malty dark fruits. Flavor was much the same with a little chocolate some hops grassy even. Did this along side 5 other doppebocks finished in the middle. eaglefan538 (2360), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 11, 2006 A very nice doppelbock. Poured a dark red-brown color with a nice but not too big tan head. Lacing was minimal. Aroma was musty and malty, somewhat sweet vinous with some dark fruits coming through. The most surprising feature of the flavor was the nutty taste that came through, almost like a nut brown doppelbock (I was expecting some coffee - although I didn’t detect any in the aroma - per word from my good friend, doulos). This didn’t have enough hop balance or as creamy a mouthfeel to take out Ayinger’s Celebrator as #1 Doppel, but it was very nice anyway. Re-rate, Sept. 06: Deep burgundy brown color with a slow developing tan head. Little chocolate, grassy hops, and some dark fruits (figs and raisins). The flavor was like the aroma, decent hop balance, although more malty than hoppy. Not too sweet, though, a very competent doppelbock, which does well among the best (vs. Celebrator, Andechser, Liberator). themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA

Extreme Doppelbock with bright sweetness, malt body, and hearty character. Poured from 16 oz. bottle into stein. Well rounded. MiP (9065), Sønderborg, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 4, 2006 Bottle, 7.2%. Malty, creamy and peppery aroma. Clear dark brown colour, small light brown head. Quite powerful flavour, sweet, roasted, creamy and very malty. Creamy mouthfeel. Long, roasted aftertaste, a bit vinous. Quite nice, but too sweet.
