The nose has banana and yeast notes (almost like a German hefe), with some sweet caramel in there, too. The flavors have some dark esters, lots of sweet malt, some Karo syrup and vanilla extract between the mid- and back-palates, a hint of plantain and some aerated sugars. ABV is integrated very well, with just a hint of warmth lingering on the mid-palate after the pull. Malty finish, semi-dry with a round mouthfeel and semi-lively carbo levels. A very decent doppelbock. BeerGuyTWMore (48), USA

Dark brown with tan thick lacing head. choco-toffee aromas with malt and alcohol. Aromas tranfer to taste with the addition of mollases and slight hop bitterness. Alittle too sweet to be my favorite but overall pretty balanced. very enjoyable and only takes two to get a good buzz Ughsmash (3999), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 24, 2009 Pint bottle. Poured clear iced tea brown with a huge initial cap of beige head that settled down to a fine layer. The aroma picked up grainy, gritty aged caramel with accents of cocoa.. sweetened up on the back, picking up a bit of vanilla. The flavor had sweeter caramel joined by molasses and some vanilla.. touches of smoke and earth accented.. short-medium length finish was dry and malty. Medium-bodied, sweet, and lightly spicy on the palate.. not terribly complex, but it sure hit the spot. armando629 (975), Budapest, Hungary

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 19, 2009 Bottle. A malty aroma, bitter chocolate and light alcoholic. The head is rather small, creamy-foamy and beige with a short duration. The body is dark red. The taste reminds me of licorice, dark malt, light bitter. The body is medium strong, light oily and with a normal carbonation. zvikar (424), Tel-Aviv, Israel

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2009 appearance is ruddy chocolate. nose of light cocoa and small toffee malt. flavor of sweet alcohol that fades on the palate after a few sips. malt is prevelant but mostly balanced. palate is very slick and coating. overall this is well enjoyable despite my own aversions to the style, quite well put together.
