Murky brown with an off-white head. Terrific aroma of anise, molasses, prunes, oak and vanilla. Flavor doesn’t quite live up to the aroma. A bit too much carbonation, and it lacks the substantial creamy body of others in the style. Earthy woodsiness laced with vanilla in the flavor. Doesn’t have the complexity of the best in the style, but a nice brew nonetheless.

A dark brown appearance with a beige head. A yeasty chocolate aroma. Flavor is rather funky with some figs, toffee, and chocolate. The moutfeel is rather thin. Overall pretty good.

Poured a dark brown with some red tint when held up to the light. The first thing I got was a noseful of malt. Quickly disappearing head and no lacing at all. Initial flavor is sweet malt folowed by dark fruits and then a slight hint of alcohol. A slight twang left on the front of the tongue and a slight dry feeling considering how sweet the malt flavor is in this beer.

Bottle Pours a nice clear dark amber with a full sandy colored head. Arpma of soft sweet malts. A bit woody and of dark pitted fruits. Flavor is a quite sweet brown sugar and licorice flavor. Very low on the hops per the style and a slight alcohol zing. Very little after taste or bitterness. Nice

The aroma has dark fruit like plums and dates with caramel and raisins as well. The color is a dark red brown with a small head. The flavor is sticky sweet with licorice, dark fruit, and alcohol. The palate is pretty good but a little on the thin side. There isn’t anything bad about this beer but it seems to be lacking something somewhere. It just doesn’t seem to satisfy me.

Cola colored body with a medium size off-white head. Aroma of chocolater mile and light roasted barley. Cocoa, roast and a touch of licorice come through in the flavor. Mild hopp bitterness in the finish with a slight peppery warmth. Not bad.

Medium brown in color with some red tones. The beer is almost the same color as the bottle. Almost no head except for a thin layer of tan lacing that remained. Aroma of sweet caramel malt. Nice but a little hard to find. Initial flavor was also of sweet malt and caramel. Maybe some raisens and dates, too. Pleasant. The beer got less sweet toward the end. The finish was very malty. Throughout it felt nice in the mouth. A very good beer.
