wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Nov 28, 2005 Bottle. Deep brown-red color, medium tan head. Very sweet, caramel aroma. Flavorvery similar, sticky, and exactly what I expect in a doppelbock. When in Germany, I thought this was the best I had. I might have to alter that, but at the moment, it is still the best. Very sweet, and full in finish, with a tad bit of alcohol. iam (369), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Oct 21, 2005 Pours mahogany coloured with a rich creamy head that’s gone in a minute. Aroma is sweet malt and caramel . Taste is also caramel malt with a more burnt taste towards the finish and an ample amount of hop bitterness. malty (12), North Carolina, USA Oct 14, 2005 Dark brown pour pour sweetsweet aroma..first taste is like honey dates and a slight hint of chocolote perhaps..drinkability.b-..2.would be my limit...malty ..out... grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA Oct 5, 2005 Dark pour. This is a very maroon beer. Lathery head that sticks around. Nose is somewhat non-existant. Red grapes, cinnamon, a slight bourbon or vanilla oak aroma. Oats. No hops. Sugary nose. Flavors and mouthfeel are perfect and accent one another very well...like perfect. Caky brown sugar flavor at first touch of the tongue. This is accented with a welcomed bitterness that flatness the flavors out on the palate. The sweetness is pushed to the edges of the tongue rather than left to cloy to the palate. Well done. Aftertaste is slightly cardboardy but for the most part imparts a pleasing roasted character to the flavor that really accents both the mouthfeel and the flavor of the brew.
Good beer all in all. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Oct 4, 2005 an opaque mahogany in color with a tanfoamy head, but the head disappears to nothingness without hardly any lace in just a minute or two. a mild aroma of caramel malt. the flavors are very mild as well with just hints of fig, raisins &dates on the backbone of the caramel malt. nicely balanced and easy drinking, but rather uninspiring for a doppel. frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2005 Mahogany/brown, semi-opaque, starting with a creamy, tan head but ending with naught. A strong presence of wood to the well-malted aroma. Raisin, prune, alcohol. Flavor started with big sugars, but evened out to become bittersweet, fruity and spiced. Mild alcohol and dirt to finish. Seltzery mouthfeel, giving the impression of being both carbonated and flat. Not as full-bodied as I’d hoped.

BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Sep 1, 2005 Very tasty and refreshing. Nice warm fuzz to it. Tucher comes through pretty good on this one. Its a dark reddish colour beer with a soft little nose with a malty flow covered in dark fruits. I swore I had had it before but I wanted to make sure before I rated it gatorbeer (148), Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA Aug 23, 2005 Updated: Nov 25, 2005Excellent beer. Rich. Smooth. One of the best beers outside of the ultra-premium beers.
