fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jul 7, 2004 Amber color. Quite ordinary bock (doppelbock?) with just a lot of caramel; quite sweet. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA Jun 10, 2004 Dark reddish brown with a medium foamy off-white head and large bubbles. Dark malty aroma, with toffee and vodka. Intensely sweet at first, medium-full body, sort of like drinking a caramel chew. Finish is smokey, salty, marshmallow, dry. All of that adds up to not such a great doppelbock. No way I’m drinking the whole bottle. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Jun 6, 2004 dark brown colour, almost no foam, strong buttery aroma, toffey and caramel, sweet and very malty, heavy, long dry finish of alcohol and caramel - too heavy and rather unbalanced; it doesn’t really work for me jerohen (1602), Bussum, Netherlands Jun 1, 2004 Clear brown coloured, small head. Caramel malty aroma. Quite sweet and one-dimensional flavour. Not great. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Jun 1, 2004 Clear brown color, short off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, some hops. Taste is sweet sugar, caramel malts. Sticky palate. Disappointing doppelbock. Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA May 30, 2004 Bottle: Another beer that has that salty soupy aroma. Whenever I figure out what soup I’m thinking of, this will be the third entry that I’m going to have to edit. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small white head that never really gets going. Lots of sediment floating around. Flavor is initially very matly and fruity but with a salty/buttery finish. Very smooth mouthfeel with out a lot of carbonation. Sweet aftertaste of brown sugar as well as the buttery salty taste. Very similar to the Weihenstephaner Korbinian, but a tad sweeter. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 20, 2004 Like a creamy dessert. Very malty and creamy yeast. Syrupy but thin. Not a top 50 beer but refreshing at end of summer night. Beats a coffee. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA May 4, 2004 Reddish brown hue with fizzy fading head and some lace. The aroma hints of caramel and toffee malts, buttered toast, floral hops, prune, smoke and earthy yeast esters. The taste is very malty and sweet upfront with an undertone of subdued fruits, toast, and smoke. The finish does have just a touch of bitterness and an earthy nature. The mouthfeel is above average, lively, and smooth.
