Bottle beersofeurope. Vineous and chocolatey, big alcohol warmth. Its rich but not too heavy, cinammon and Christmas cake flavours, with an effervescent palate and bittersweet finish. Deep ruby colour, head disappears very quickly. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours a deep ruby-hued bronze body with a medium creamy off-white head. Nose is raisins, caramel and deep malt tones with hints of grains. Taste is raisins, nuts, bread, rye, hints of caramel and licorice. Full body, yet crisp somehow. Easily drinkable despite the high ABV. A nice doppelbock, all in all.

0.5l bottle. This is a clear deep dark ruby brown one with a nice medium sized dark beige top. The aroma has a good almost burned caramel sweetness, lots of hazelnut, some traces of alcohol and tones of dark fruits. Smells really classic, and just how I like my dobbelbocks. The mouthfeel on this is soft oily and the carbonation level is about average. Lovely dark malty sweetness in the flavor. Tons of bitter nuts. It has a yeasty thing also, even if I’m pretty sure it’s heavy filtered. The burned caramel suits this really nice, and it reminds me of Easter. Something slightly salty has been blended in between all the sweet dark caramel. Did not expect it to be as tasty as this when I saw the bottle. Actually, the Easter vacation starts today! By far the best I’ve had from Tucher. 22.03.2013

Douberd (1690) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - MAY 23, 2013
500 ml bottle, poured into a snifter. ABV 7.5% Nice deep mahogany brown colour on the body, dark but still somewhat transparent, at least when hold against the light. Two fingers of thick beige head, with low retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. The aroma is really great. I am just sitting here sniffing it over and over again, fantastic chocolate smell, with vanilla notes, just a tiny bit of the alcohol as well. Delicious taste, lotsmilky chocolate mostly, lightly roasted malts on the background. In spite of all that chocolate, is only mildly sweet. Alcohol only a tiny bit notable on the very last moments on the aftertaste. Medium thick body, light carbonation. Dry palate and a bit sticky at the same time. The first pleasant surprise among my recent haul, bought recently in Germany, and one to keep in mind for the next time I visit.

Very noticeable flavors of prune and licorice. Thick, clear palate. Overall very good doppelbock with strong attitude.
