Pungently strong sweet caramelly malt and rich fig or prune aroma. Thick, chewy full body leads with sweet malt and leads to well-balanced appropriate hop bitterness. Alcohol is well-masked and there's a lingering sweet figginess. Nice! Drew (2408), Kent, Ohio, USA

The malt has so much character: peat, caramel, light dose of deep stewed fruit, but also bright orchard fruit. Big fluffy head. The body has three tiers of deep dark wood colors. The nice light palate keeps this hugely drinkable. "Workaday"? Come now. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA

This is meaty, beefy, big and bouncy. It has all the malt I expect and just a tad more bitter than some dopplebocks which may or may not be enough to get the hop police here to ease up. And not even a trace or hint of badger in the thing. Prost! hennes (932), Fountain, Michigan, USA

Hugely malty, with some fruit (plum), caramel, and aftershave spiciness. A fair rise of coffee and other raost bitters (dried cedar shavings?) dries out the close and keeps it from getting too sweet. It's been awhile since I had a dopple, but this one, consumed with a good book in my bay window, pleasantly blew me away. The book is complex and intriguing, too: Swann by Carol Shields. Check out both! raindog (558), Evansville, Indiana, USA

Raisins and dark fruit are here as well. Too bad for the touch of iron at the end, otherwise a nice beer.
