Nekronos (2243), Xalapa, Mexico Oct 25, 2008 VEry nic eone, it was awesome to drink,a little tiring after a while but it’s quality is noticeable. demitriustown (689), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Oct 22, 2008 1 Pint bottle: Aroma is got a nice plum pudding note, sugary caramel malts, somewhat soapy, and a candied apple like aroma as well. Appearance is a semi-translucent brown pour with a medium sized tan head that diminishes into a soapy tan film. Taste is caramel malt, candy, plum, nutty, a bit of smoke, and light amount of citrus. Palate has a nicely carbonated note on the tongue and an aftertaste with a lingering caramel malt note. Overall, Pretty decent. I would definitely get this again, but not the greatest. Above Average! Cheers! otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Oct 22, 2008 Doppelbocks are a rare breed. Not so much because they are hard to brew, though that may be the case. But, mainly for me it is because they are hard to find. Even harder to find is a good doppelbock, so I was very excited and a wee bit leery to get my hands on a Bajuvator from Tucher Brewing out of Germany. I have had other Tucher beers which were very delightful, but there is always that small unknown factor with any beer - will it be good? Or will it disappoint? As I pour my Bajuvator into my glass, I prepare myself for hopeful doppelbock bliss.
A dark brown highlighted by some amber curves and glints of copper as the light pervades her body. A small head which fades into a thin ring around my glass. Her nose is big and full with lots of sweet and cloying malts, caramel, caramelized sugars and a hint of prunes and spice. Contrary to her nose, the body and mouthfeel is lighter than I was anticipating which keeps Bajuvator from being too cloying. A nice sense of effervescence and carbonation makes her light on my tongue and dancing along my tastebuds. Light lemon and citric elements mingle with the caramel, malts, nuts, and dark fruits of which I get both prunes and some raisin. A dry finish adds more balance and after I delve further into her depths a hint of alcohol warmth creeps into my chest and throat.
Overall, a decent doppelbock, though Ayinger’s Celebrator still holds top plate. I would definitely have another if offered or I was somewhere I could buy it. What it does lack though is a bit more balance in the palate. A bit too sweet and missing some of the intricate complexities of the variety of flavors which can make doppelbocks shine among the best beers. Floback (333), Naples, Florida, USA Oct 17, 2008 Bottle from Nicola’s Liquors. Pours a small white head that reduces quickly over a chocolatey-amber body. The nose is malty with toast and grains. Flavors include more malts, cola, mild toffee, and mild caramel. Medium body and medium carbonation. A decent beer, refreshing. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2008 Not even close to what i was hoping it to be, but it was still pretty ok. It had alot of that over malty german sweetness, and not a whole lot of hops. Not surprisingly this was right on the mark for the style, but as most german beer goes it doesnt take many risks. 17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2008 A very dark mahogany with a small frothy beige creamy head. Aroma of a tootsie-roll. Creamy first mouthful with fine sparkling smooth carbonation. Flavor is very chocolaty, a bit doughy, light grass, its a nice sweet flavor that is almost off-dry, I like that. This is a very clean easy drinking doppelbock, straight forward, but well done!
