Nice malty nose with accents of buttered toast, roasted sugared bananas, grain and a slight alcohol burn. Chewy/syrupy palate offers a full maltiness, along with fresh red apples, burnt caramel, some interesting floral notes, brown sugar, and bitter honey. A hoppy banana flesh finish, quite tasty. Slightly acidic feel which is kind of annoying. Sweet finish, caramel flavoring with hints of malty fruitiness. Alcohol is maybe a little more prominent than it needs to be. Also as you get into the glass, the taste doesn’t seem nearly as strong as it started...yeah, this is usually true to some extent but it seems more so in this beer. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA

Not really much of a taste. Slightly sweet. Bubbly. Hmm... Nice though. Sticks to the lips. I think this is very solid. I’d pick this up with some other German beers and have a good night. fly (1334), austin, Tejas, USA

This is meaty, beefy, big and bouncy. It has all the malt I expect and just a tad more bitter than some dopplebocks which may or may not be enough to get the hop police here to ease up. And not even a trace or hint of badger in the thing. Prost! JMerritt (1327), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Sampled at 2009 WIU Performing Arts Society Beerfest. Semi-cloudy two-tone brownish plum red with a very small white head. Very toasty/roasty malt aroma, with some ripened fruit (dates and raisins) and honey roasted peanuts. Definitely a fruitcake feel to the nose with the hints of bready yeast and grains. Flavor has a lot of raisin, and finish is rather grainy (wheat, straw). More complex as you enjoy it as the ripened fruit notes being to pop. Really nice.
