| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 27, 2006 Poured a dark brown with some red tint when held up to the light. The first thing I got was a noseful of malt. Quickly disappearing head and no lacing at all. Initial flavor is sweet malt folowed by dark fruits and then a slight hint of alcohol. A slight twang left on the front of the tongue and a slight dry feeling considering how sweet the malt flavor is in this beer. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2006 Pour is a nice looking red with a tan head. Aroma is malts, malts and more malts. Flavor is more of the same with a nice dark fruit aftertaste. Not the best rep of the style by a long shot but its pretty tasty and esy drinking. A plus to the brew is its low price , mine only cost $2 for a 18oz. wulfhere (217), Billings, Montana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Very deep copper to opaque brown with a decent head that receded rapidly to just a bit of tan lace around the edge of the glass. Rich, malty nose with caramel, chocolate and mild roasted character and a definite alcoholic scent. Maybe just a bit of astringency and a slight phenolic background, but very malty and rich! Mouthfeel is full and finish is middlin’ sweet.

Sweetish aromas of burnt sugar or molasses. A little fruit. Sweet taste. A little light on body. Overall fairly decent. bubbleflubber (903), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Deep mahogany pour into the glass, with a minimal offwhite head that leaves a fizzy ring and lace. The nose has banana and yeast notes (almost like a German hefe), with some sweet caramel in there, too. The flavors have some dark esters, lots of sweet malt, some Karo syrup and vanilla extract between the mid- and back-palates, a hint of plantain and some aerated sugars. ABV is integrated very well, with just a hint of warmth lingering on the mid-palate after the pull. Malty finish, semi-dry with a round mouthfeel and semi-lively carbo levels. A very decent doppelbock.
