Flavor is more of the same with a nice dark fruit aftertaste. Not the best rep of the style by a long shot but its pretty tasty and esy drinking. A plus to the brew is its low price , mine only cost $2 for a 18oz. wulfhere (217), Billings, Montana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Very deep copper to opaque brown with a decent head that receded rapidly to just a bit of tan lace around the edge of the glass. Rich, malty nose with caramel, chocolate and mild roasted character and a definite alcoholic scent. Maybe just a bit of astringency and a slight phenolic background, but very malty and rich! Mouthfeel is full and finish is middlin’ sweet.

Sweetish aromas of burnt sugar or molasses. A little fruit. Sweet taste. A little light on body. Overall fairly decent. bubbleflubber (903), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Deep mahogany pour into the glass, with a minimal offwhite head that leaves a fizzy ring and lace. The nose has banana and yeast notes (almost like a German hefe), with some sweet caramel in there, too. The flavors have some dark esters, lots of sweet malt, some Karo syrup and vanilla extract between the mid- and back-palates, a hint of plantain and some aerated sugars. ABV is integrated very well, with just a hint of warmth lingering on the mid-palate after the pull. Malty finish, semi-dry with a round mouthfeel and semi-lively carbo levels. A very decent doppelbock. TerryR (383), Oswego, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 11, 2006 Deep brown color with nice mahogany highlights. Tan head quickly faded away but leaves nice lacing. Aroma is nutty and sweet. More sweet malt flavor. Smooth body. Easy to drink and a very nice beer, but not quite up there with the best in the category. CharlesDarwin (1873), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 18, 2008 500mL Bottle. Thanks Sean! Husky unfermented grain, sourdough bread, and salt pork nose. Pours blood red on the side of mesquite. Tall foam, crisp in earth. Flavor is an overly sweet, mostly shallow pan caramel and toasted raisin bread. A touch tangy. Mild creaminess, gentle alcohols, and bland carbonation. Soft. Light nuttiness. Pretty predictable and bland. Finishes with a faintness sense of hops. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
