EHopper (142), Minnesota, USA May 7, 2008 Nice dark carmel color and intense carmel and malt aroma. Very smooth, pleasant flavor to match. Kind of sweat with just a touch of alcohol. Has a hard to describe quality of smoothness and control that speaks to, well, high quality. Ends in a kind of malty chocolate coffee flavor that lingers and is very nice. I really need to serve this one to friends.
WickerBrew (278), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2008 Not even close to what i was hoping it to be, but it was still pretty ok. It had alot of that over malty german sweetness, and not a whole lot of hops. Not surprisingly this was right on the mark for the style, but as most german beer goes it doesnt take many risks. 17thfloor (721), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2008 A very dark mahogany with a small frothy beige creamy head. Aroma of a tootsie-roll. Creamy first mouthful with fine sparkling smooth carbonation. Flavor is very chocolaty, a bit doughy, light grass, its a nice sweet flavor that is almost off-dry, I like that. This is a very clean easy drinking doppelbock, straight forward, but well done! MrRomero (1893), Wiesbaden-Biebrich, Germany Sep 27, 2008 500 ml bottle: Poured into a weizen glass. Poured cola brown with some ruby notes. Fairly small brown head. Rich malty aroma with meaty notes and soy. Mild sweet taste with some roasted malts, dark fruits with a mild bitter finish. Somewhat watery finish. Good. mdm46410 (586), Griffith, Indiana, USA Sep 24, 2008 Poured from a 500ml bottle and served in a dimpled mug. This doppelbock poured a mostly clear dark mahogany with a one-finger thick head of tan foam that lasted throughout most of the glass. Almost no lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of toasted caramel, molasses, and some dark fruit skins. The flavor included burnt sugar, molasses, faint dark fruits, mild alcohol, and a bit of bread dough. A bit dull, and nothing really stands out. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and had moderate carbonation. Average. faroeviking (4386), Faroese Autonomous Beer Republic, Denmark Sep 9, 2008 Botella. Clear deep dark brown colour, short beige head. Sweet toasty malty aroma. Fair mouthfeel. The flavour is rather sweet with toasted caramel and malt, grains, some alcohol and a mild bitter hops.
