DA (2280), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Nov 24, 2006 Pours amber with a thin white head. Citrus and pine hop aroma. The hops are floral with a strong bitter finish. Crisp and dry with lingering grapefruit aftertaste. Very nice hop profile without being painfully bitter. Slight excess yeast flavor in the finish. Pours a very nice clear orange-amber with a lovely white head and good lacing.
When we were kids, we’d stick a hollow peppermint stick into an orange and suck all the juice out; that’s how this one smells and I rather like it. The flavor is rich with a strong and long-lived bitterness, mouthfeel is slightly hot and oily. I’d enjoy trying it again.
Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 5, 2006 Amber with a small head and great lacing. Very fruity nose with pine notes and lots of caramel. Almost a note of bubblegum with citrus. Bitter and piney flavor. Strong caramel and toasted malts. Some yeast, but overall not a lot more I want to say about this one. Oakes (6793), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Sep 3, 2006 Golden amber colour. Woody-mouldy-mossy...a really strange aroma. Quite bitter, mossy, woody and very toasty. A light alcohol back note. Rather strange, to say the least. Certainly not the citrus bomb you’d expect, and I don’t like that it almost feels like it’s got a stale cigarette smoke note to it.
