Davecooks (1128), Bay Area, California, USA Oct 2, 2006 Draft. Dishwater copper color with a frothy white head. Caramel, grainy malt aroma with a smoke presence. Thick mouth feel with a salmony smokiness. Well made but kindda weird.
DA (2280), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Dec 4, 2005 By far one of my favorite beers from Tuck’s brewery, very nice and subtle smoked beer. Very nice helles base with just a light hint of smoke that doesn’t overpower the beer, but rather adds a new dimension to it. This beer really goes amazingly with food. At the OBF dinner it matched the pork very well. This pours a very clear golden color with a nice white head. I wish more breweries would realize that a little smoke goes a long way and can really make a nice addition to a beer. BrewDad (1553), Olympia, Washington, USA Sep 15, 2005 Was at Tucks for a function and had this recomened by Max. A good beer. It has a clear color with a nice foamy head. The flavors where so mixed it was hard to get the smoked flavor. I get the complexity of all the grains and a slight grass feel. Good overall flavors at the end and this was a great beer to drink when it is hot. Good job Max!!! 11026 (1886), USA Aug 24, 2005 Tap at the Oregon Brewers Guild dinner. Clear and golden in color. Nice white head which leaves good lacing. Very interesting hybrid beer. Aroma is plain jane helles beer with perhaps some lightly kilned malts and a pleasant smokey aroma. Lighter bodied. Light smoke flavor blends nicely with the lighter malt bill of a Helles. It really complimented the barbequed pork loin I was eating with dinner. Well done. jasonp (1423), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Aug 14, 2005 On tap at The Rose and Raindrop. Pours clear golden with a white head. Somewhat grassy aroma with a hint of smoke. Flavor also has pleasant notes of grain, grass, a little smoke and a touch of caramel and hops (saaz perhaps?) on the back end. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Nice beer. Tucks deserves credit for at least attempting a subtle, neglected style in the land of big beers.
