COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
’East India Pale Ale’ was first brewed in England last century for the colonies East of India such as New Zealand and Australia. The beer was unpasteurised and secondary fermentation occured in the bottle during the long journey. Thirsty settlers loved its natural effervescent character and we reckon it still hits the spot today.
Brewer’s Comment: This fine ale is a thoroughly refreshing beer with a light palate best suited to beaches, barbecues and all beer related occasions.
Serving Suggestions: Serve lightly chilled on its own or with any manner of barbecued meats. At restaurants, or when trying to impress others, try and use a glass. Do not mix with salad.
Cellaring: Yeah right!

This is my favourite mass produced beer from my home country, New Zealand, which is why I’m giving it full marks though most of people are a little right in saying that it is not the finest beer in the world. Great for the sun, not too hoppy, rather amber in colour, smells pretty damn good, tastes the same and the marketing is the best I’ve ever seen, ever!

Bottle 33cl. Clear deep amber, small frothy white to off-white head, settles quickly, light lacing; shy nose, malty, caramel, bit toasted; taste light medium sweet and bitter, malty, caramel; light body, oily to watery texture, soft carbonation, light sweetbitter aftertaste, herbal notes, bit watery; not an IPA at all but drinkable anyway.

Butilka: Clear, deep amber coloured, lazy carbonation, rapidly collapsing off-white head; mild sweetish-caramelly nose, some vegetables detectable, but in opposite to the vegetables are the hops very hard to find; mild sweetish-bitter flavour, light bodied; a faint malty bitterness shows up short caramelly finish. An IPA? Oh no…

330ml Flasche. Bernsteinfarben und klar. Kleine Schaumkrone. Leichte Malznoten, ansonsten ziemlich wässrig und langweilig. Aber geht gut und leicht runter.

Cute label, with a cute explanation about the founding of the beer. Nice colour -- at least for an amber ale. Pretty much no aroma. Very, very weakly hopped. Some sweetish notes at the end combined with the sparkling water body give it a bit of a Perrier vibe. Could probably substitute this for drinking water in most situations.

Lager? Ale? Hard to tell. Bland, with some weak malt flavor. Not much else to speak of.

TedE (502) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - DEC 21, 2014
UPDATED: JAN 6, 2015 330ml bottle into glass. Head gone instantly, very little carbonation. No lacing, amber colour. Does not taste like a pale ale at all. It’s a kind of almost beer. Not offensive. Not good either. A darkish flat lager.

eduardovl (1079) - SWITZERLAND - NOV 6, 2014
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2014 330ml bottle served in a pint glass. A: Pours a completely clear amber copper color forming a bubbled and fizzy white head that disappears quickly leaving no lacings in the glass. S: Malty and crispy with notes of Heineken style grassy hops. Caramel malts . Bready style yeasts. T: Malty and crispy in the mouth too. Slightly sweet upfront. Caramel malts, grassy hops. Very mild bitterness. M: Light body. High (artificial) carbonation. Bready and grassy aftertaste. O: Low drinkability. This beer is doubtfully an Ale, and for sure not an IPA. This brewery should be forbidden of selling it as an IPA... Actually, this brewery should be forbidden of selling it...
