thmsboyd (66) - Ayr, SCOTLAND - MAR 23, 2015
Bottle BBE: April 2016. Chilled. Bright coppery amber body with a small white head. Low intensity nose, principally malty caramel with some doughy character. A touch of butyric, but generally fresh. Hard to detect any whisky on the nose. Heavy, fruity sweetness to taste, with a medium dry bitterness to follow. Some sourness. Quite full-bodied with a chewy texture, average carbonation and a lingering oaky finish. Overall impression is a bog-standard ale improved modestly by barrel aging (or similar). Not bad.

Scopey (8089) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 14, 2015
Bottle from Asda Bridge of Don. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is sweet, biscuit, grainy, light vanilla, white sugar, honey and some earth. The taste is sweet, sugary, white bread, earth, toasty grain, cereal, sweet whisky twang and honey with a dryish finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. I wasnít expecting much and thatís what I got. Pretty sweet and not depth whatsoever. I would choose I&G over this. For real.

Pours clear medium gold with one fingers of dense white head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, patchy minimal lacing (3/5). Nose is sweet malt, honey, faint whisky and oaky vanilla (5/10). Taste is aggressively sweet with faint whisky notes, finishing bitter (4/10). Light to medium body, moderate to low sustained carbonation, with a lingering sticky bitter and faint whisky finish (3/5). Iím not a big fan of scotch ales / wee heavies at the best of times, and this doesnít come anywhere near the best. Aggressive sugary sweetness and only a hint of whisky conditioning, on top of a sweet malt base and no hop character. About the best thing I can say about this is, at least itís not peated malt. (10/20)

The lightest touch of whisky Iíve ever experienced in a "whisky beer". Clear gold with a thin white head.
