RATINGS: 3   MEAN: 2/5.0   WEIGHTED AVG: 2.5/5   ABV: -
This is very pale in color and the lightest of all the German wheat beers. The unique combination of yeast and lactic acid bacteria fermentation yields a beer that is acidic, highly attenuated, and very light bodied. The carbonation of a Berliner Weisse is high, and hop rates are very low. Clarity may be hazy or cloudy from yeast or chill haze. Hop character should not be perceived. Fruity esters will be evident. No diacetyl should be perceived.

WTF?? I like adventurous brewers who try their hand at this style. But this was god dammed awful. The aroma is poop, vomit, sour, really off. Infected maybe? The appearance is clear yellow, white head. the flavor was like the aroma, slightly less of the foul off-flavors, but a manure like flavor, sour, some lemon. The finish was like swallowing your own vomit. Medium in body. Not what a BW should be at all. Gross.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2013 Draft at the brewpub a couple years back, poured hazy straw yellow with bubbly white head. Notes of sour funk, lemons, grain, and lots of wheat. Had kind of a weird aftertaste. Lighter body. One of my first berliners and not a good first impression for the style. Tried again yesterday and this thing was tasting so rough. Horrible cheese funk, wet acids, and bad yeast. Couldnt finish my 3 oz sample.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2009 **Just added this beer, so Ill be the first to rate it as well.

Location: On tap at the Brew Pub, 8/14/09

Aroma: Mostly citrusy, lemon, tangy, wheat
Appearance: Mildly hazy yellowish color
Flavor: Lemony and wheaty, on the sour side
Palate: Light body, mild
Overall Impression: Beer had some of the typical German Hefe flavors, but it was overly sour, and a bit too thin, and that decreased the score for me. Pretty darn dull as well.
