Hoppy citrus aroma but balanced with a malt presence. Nice smooth hop flavor which is balanced nicely with a sweet full maltiness. It sits very nicely in the mouth. Overall it has a nice malt bill that isn’t harsh on the toung but does make it’s presence known. Thanks to DocLock for this one. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

I had it a few years ago and I didn’t like it. When I just had it on Friday it was a god beer. Enjoyable. Flavor is mostly hops. Nice beer. Flavor is mostly hops, and fresh hops at that, with a touch of malt sweetness in the background. Nice and quenching. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 19, 2004 12 oz bottle. Clear light honey-amber, minimal head and lacing. Aroma fresh, citrusy/hoppy, perhaps not truly expressive but enjoyable. A bit of sharpness emerges at the end, and this shows up at the beginning of the flavor, which is by turns quite bitter, peppery and highly carbonated, then rather dry in the middle, with a sweet malty glow towards the finished moderated by just a touch of dry pine needles. Excellent clean, full body and excellent APA all around. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 8, 2004 Dusky burntish gold color, firm but thin beige foamy cap, fades fairly quickly, but leaves a broken skim and a good collar always present, lacing in full coating sheets that break away to leave layers of strings and spots.
Aroma is quite nice, nice dry hop sense to it with a refined fresh and leafy hoppyness, quite grassy and spicy with a nice gleaming touch of citrus and pine traces smeared underneath of a toasty malt backing. Nice smellin’ IPA here.
Taste has a fine brigade of hops lending solid dry leafyness, also a good load of grassy, spicy things and bits of citrus and pine. Quite a significant amount of toasty dry buscuit malts with a smidge of caramel keep an interesting balance, more so towards the middle and nearer the finish. The finish leaves a very fresh leafy dry hopped bittering with some nice toasty factions thrown in to boot.
Medium body feel leaning towards a lighter side of things and has a raw zing of light carbonation thats seems a bit off for me. I like IPA’s to be a bit cleaner and smoother in the feel. Its quite raw and kinda chalky in most phases of its duration. It actually feels like dried hop leaves, which is interesting in itself but kept it from being a bit more likeable for my part in that dept. yet still encouraged me to continue to quaff it down without a shrug. Pretty good stuff eh. fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA

She spotted this and another decent beer in the hotel bar that I wouldn’t have ventured into. Nice and hopped. Very excellent night cap and conversation continuer. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 29, 2004 Setting: Served on tap at RFD’s in a pint glass.
Appearance: Clear honey colored liquid topped by a small, white, and rocky head that recedes to a ring and a film. Left decently thick sheets of lacing on the glass, just like an IPA should, goldurnit.
Aroma: Oranges and spruce trees with a mild underlay of biscuity malts. Pleasant, but not in yo’ face like some IPA’s I’ve had.
Flavor: Sweet pale malt and a wackload of hops. Orangey, peppery, tangy spruce. Nice lingering bitter hops aftertastes. Quintessential East Coast IPA. Great malt backing, yet purty darn hoppy.
Palate: Smooth and creamy with a nice medium body. Great palate cleanser.
Overall: Rather quaffable. This will most likely be a featured beer in my fridge come summer. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2004 Appearance: a color that surprised me for a hoppy ale, clear, and pale gold, with a nicely retained off-white head.
Aroma: abuzz with hoppiness, piney, citrusy, fruity (grapefruit meets tangerine, I’m thinking. I like it, it’s good! Fresh, and vibrant!
Hops continue as we take our first sip, and they are tangy, tasty, blistering with hops, but how enjoyabale is it? The lack of more maltiness to conteract the full-on hop attack is a significant drawback, though not one that troubles me a great deal. I love the stuff, though I surely wouldn’t enjoy too many in a row.
Finish is nice and long, predominantly hoppy, and actually that’s the foremost characteristic of this brew. Body is a bit too light, for the hoppiness, and texture is, again, dominated by the mannerisms of the hops in the brew. And that’s a good thing.
