COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in Kenya since 1922. Medium alcohol beer that is a favorite choice for many occasions.

pretty typical pale lager. cool to drink something from Africa and support the economy there, but pretty much crappy like all other pale lagers.

Pours yellow with a pure white head. Little aroma. Faint citrus and spice. Even less taste. What? This is like water. Nothing is really discernable, maybe some ridiculously faint hops. Nothing disgusting, but incredibly bland.

I tried this beer on September 13, 2007 at ’Smokeless Joe’ in Toronto. The beer poured a translucent gold with a thin white head. The aroma was grainy with a hint of malt and some yeast. The mouthfeel was thin with high carbonation. The taste was grassy as with a lot of macro style lagers

This is an exception to my rule that brew is best closer to home. The only reason (I believe) that Tusker has become so popular is because there are so many tourists in Kenya and it is a novelty to drink an African beer with that oh-so-African elephant on the label. This one is basically plain old beer and is a VERY far cry from the Malt Lager by Tusker, which I think is supremely better and shows more attention to craft. All of this brews qualities are the standard mass produced ones. The end.

12 oz. bottle. Clean pale malt aroma, seems a bit dusty, and very, very light grassy hop. Pale brassy gold color with a white head that quickly diminished. Medium body; mild, sort of fizzy, carbonation. The flavor is light sweet malt, with some non-grassy, only slightly bitter hop. But in the finish the malt goes a bit veg, and the hop goes a bit bitter. Rather dry finish. Overall the mouth stood up and took notice.

12 oz bottle purchased at Spirits Red Bank. This is with out a doubt the worst looking beer that I have rated to date. Poured a super super thin pale yellow with no visible carbonation and a fizzy quickly diminshing white bubbly head. Aroma is just bad, maybe some malts but it’s just funky in a bad way. Flavor suprisingly isn’t horrible but still not something I enjoyed. Tolerable is a fairly accurate description. Luckily the aftertaste quickly fades and leaves room for you to go get a good beer and forget about this one.

Pours a pale yellow w/ a full froth. Good hangtime and the lacing is full and lasting. Aromas of aged grains. Medium nectar w/ ample soft residual effers. has a nice cotton texture. Malty and very rustic w/ aged citrus and musty malted grains. A buttery flavor appears quickly and lingers. Theres a defined hop bittering that makes the beer more enjoyable. It actually makes it taste more fresh. The finish is bittered nicely w/ velvety hops. Overall: it’s actually quite complex for such a boring style. The game play between the aged, rustic character and the fresh hops is enjoyable.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2007 12 oz bottle from bevmo. Pours a a very pale yellow with a lacy white head that quickly vanishes. Pretty much NO aroma. Very little flavor, just sort of a sweet metallic effect. No hops. Light prickly carbonation. Thin and watery palate. No finish. It just hardly gets any worse than this.
