COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in Kenya since 1922. Medium alcohol beer that is a favorite choice for many occasions.

Clear yellow color, ok head. Hoppy aroma, bit herbal maybe, rice. Taste is sweet watery, hoppy. Quite ok lager actually.

Very hoppy aroma, skunky and a bit herbal or fruity. Clear, yellow coloured with a lasting, very rocky white head. Taste is hoppy and sweet, bit watery. More hopbitter in the middle. Some sourness. Fresh, watery palate.
For an african beer, quite okay!

Tastes like chilled yak piss. Looks like a bad urine sample and generally is a waste of a bottle. Makes me think the ppl at Labatts Blue have a good thing on their hand.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2004 Golden with a white head, i.e. it looks like every other tropical lager. Aroma of malt. Very malty, slightly sweet. Not much hoppiness, although what's there seems like Saaz or something in that family of unobtrusive lager hops. Medium body. Not bad at all. Apparently the Swahili words "Bia Yangu Nchi Yangu" on the label mean "My beer, my country."

Smelled like popcorn and tasted like melted butter. Very clear golden colour. No, I wasn't eating popcorn at the time. Very flat.

Quite refreshing but not very interesting... Is this my first African beer?

Bottle. Pours light golden with a thin white head that left some lacing. Aroma is fairly typical American Standard, malty/hoppy/skunky, but not a lot of adjunct pollution. Flavor is decent but unremarkable, pretty clean with a lingering tart hop finish. Light body and mildly carbonated. Not bad for a country more known for it's coffee.

Anything this light doesn't get far in my book for appearance. Small head to boot. Grassy and skunky scent (brown bottle and still skunky). I guess it's supposed to be there. Very average taste... just tastes like beer without any other dominant flavors creeping through. Good mouthfeel... really, it is. A good session beer candidate. Very easy to drink.

Well, this is a definite step up from BMC, which was my worry before I tried this beer. This beer is a bit fuller & has a bit more flavor to it. There are some definite soft complementing spicy hop notes in the flavor, as well as a nice subtle bitterness in the finish. This is a crisp clean beer with a bit of malt-grain sweetness to it. Having said all this, it is still not a great beer. Worth trying perhaps because it is from Kenya, but just barely.

Golden, clear, with a small head. Lacing is actually quite decent. Honey and wet grain aroma. Sweet grain/grassy flavor. Finish is of sour hay. Bring back memories of working in a hayloft. My first African beer.
