Whereas Tusker normally comes in 500mL brown bottles, this came in 12oz green bottles when I worked in Kenya. The alcohol on this is a bit higher than normal Tusker and doesnít have corn added as an adjunct. Still, it is slightly more alcoholic in taste when served warm with typical sweetness abounding. Still seltzer palate and essentially no bitterness. Mild grass, lemon, soda, honey. It is certainly not bad like Senator, but usually more expensive for 12oz than a 500mL of Tusker or Safari. Safari being even better and cheaper than Tusker in Maasailand, Kenya.

One of the few palatable African beers, but after having few a sour maltiness starts working itís way up from your belly. BYO!

March 2008: from BA. Green 300ml bottle, brought back from Kenya last year so I could review it at my leasure. Still well within its best before date, I poured into a Corsendonk stemmed tulip shaped glass. Looks like a Dort, a deep darker, old gold colour. Not the bright, light normal lager hue. The white head does stay, but there isnít a huge top to start with. Malt aroma, barley and some hops too. Fairly sweet caramel esters also. Even in the cold English winter this African beer has something worth having. Drinking it reminded me of the Safari and all the excitment there of, wonderful. Malty and clean tasting, plenty of flavour from the yeast and hops. The sweetness of the caramel smell doesnít come into taste, but a little sweetnes is within the flavours. This is a good beer, obviously it tastes better in the warmth with the sun on your back, but its mouthfeel is just right. The malt flavour stays throughout and no metalic twang arrives like some malt lagers.

Poured into a pint glass. Clear, straw color with a half finger of white head that held pretty well for this style. Good lacing. Smells like corn husks and cotton candy. Watery taste, mildest bitterness, ends a little sweet. Crisp texture, light body, moderate carbonation. Fits the bill style-wise. Maybe I havenít had an adjunct lager in awhile but this was a decent drink. No off-flavors or bad smell.

Bottle: Poured a pale yellow color lager with a small pure white foamy head. Aroma of adjunct is not present as opposed to most beers from this brewery. Taste is quite bland with light cereal notes and a semi-sweet finish. Body is thin with good carbonation. This is another bland offering form this brewery though it is superior to the original.

Bottle. Malt aroma. Clear yellow colour with soft white head. Pleasent malt flavour but nothing African in the taste.

Billed as 100% malt brewed. All this means is that they havenít added cornstarch like they do with regular Tusker. 12oz bottle pours a totally clear, very faint yellow with a foamy head that fades fast. Nose is vaguely sweet, a little grass, some faint yeast, a little honey, white bread. Flavor is fine, lightly sweet but not sugary, some light bread, some light yeast. Fairly straight forward. Watery finish. I like that this doesnít have an artificial sweetness to it, but that said, thereís isnít alot happening anyway.

Surprise present from my dad. I saw that it was a Kenyan lager and I almost didnít even want to try it. Being the ticker that I am, I gave it a shot, and this is exactly why we donít judge a beer by its location...Appearance nothing to note...Aroma is light and sweet, corn, but youíd expect tons of skunk and none is present...The aroma is light and sweet, not at all a typical lager. This isnít a great beer but it exceeds expectations for a lager and a Kenyan beer.

330 ml bottle in Kenya. Color is a very light yellow with good carbonation and a light head. Aroma is a light sweet malt scent with a hint of skunk which is most likely from being in a green bottle.Taste is sweet and malty. Starting with medium body that goes down with creamy feel. The finish is a sweet malt flavor backed by a light bitterness. Itís got a common taste, like most of these types of lagers.
