3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I had this in Nairobi, so I am sure that it was much fresher than one would find it outside of Kenya. Standard lager character until you get to the flavor. Extremely robust and full. So hearty and even that I was shocked as I drank it. If only the beer could find it’s way to the U.S. and still be this good.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle. (as Malt Lager) Clear, a bit pale golden pour, with a white head. Malty aroma with some butterscotch and a fruity hint. Butterscotch and fruit notes in the flavor. Medium to thin body, and a relatively bitter finish. Decent but boring, thin, but not bad. (070625)

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A random gift from my wife’s co-worker’s recent trip to Kenya. Pale golden, pillowy white head. Fairly fresh pale malt aroma, grassy/floral hop aroma as well. Sweet grassiness, straw and hay. Light sweet pale malt flavour with a moderate bitterness and a soft creamy texture. Decent enough brew. Nice and refreshing.

(Bottle 30 cl) Comes as "Tusker Malt Lager". Nice fully golden colour, fair off-white but dissipating head. Floral, hoppy aroma. Flavour is dominated by sweet malt - quite straight and pleasant. A very decent brew. Thanks for this Dorte - greatly appreciated. 140106

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2007 An excellent brew, of all the East African beers, this is the best IMHO. mild aftertaste, nice smell, hard to get outside Africa.. (well, hard to get in Ireland) one of my favorite beers.

1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Tusker Malt Lager. 25 June 2005. Bottle.
Fizzy white head that just vanishes. Very pale yellow. Smells of corn (maize?) a little, something grassy and, in a weird way, slightly of green beans. Tastes a little better than it smells, but is kind of plasticky. Head to head with other Ugandans (mine says it’s "Brewed by Uganda Breweries, Ltd.") I think it’s better than Bell, but comes in behind Nile Special.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A minor oasis in the beer desert that is Africa. Straw colour, short head that at least showed some length. If it’s fresh, the aroma is the best thing about it - vanilla notes and citric hops. Thin bodied and quenching. Dominated by malt to the extent that there’s no real finish. Bland but inoffensive. (Bottle)
