Sparkling gold color, white head. I smelled some hops in this along with biscuity malts. But the flavor left me wondering where the hops were. Malty with spent hops on the finish. Meh.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, California, USA - JAN 19, 2011
03-Nov-10 (Draft: Tustin Brewing Co. in Tustin, CA) This beer pours clear, amber-gold color with half an inch of off-white head and lacing in a ring at the top. Classic style-driven aromas of grainy, cereal malts and piney, citrusy hops. Dry cereal malt base is initially balanced by piney and grapefruit-rind hops with medium-plus bitterness. This bitterness builds over several sips and sticks to the palate for a finish that goes on and on, leading to a highly bitter aftertaste. Medium in body and medium in carbonation, and the fully attenuated malt base is very dry. Overall, this is a very hoppy pale ale in the West Coast style, but it’s a bit too bitter for me and needs better malt follow-through in the finish.
