3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 13, 2009 Cask at the Prince of Wales, Twickenham. Tawny/copper coloured with a small but long-lasting head and a nutty, woody aroma. Quite full-bodied, with a grainy character which developed into a fruity (hints of mulberries) and malty bitterness. The aftertaste was sweet and initially just a bit cloying, but then a cleaner bitter chocolate taste came through, running into a long-lasting bitter finish.
Re-rated at the Magpie & Crown, Brentford. This year’s is a dark orange-brown with a coarse white head. Piney hops on the nose, then the palate brings bitter oranges, nuts & dry malt, it turns sweet on the tongue before segueing into a clean astringent finish.
