A blend of dark ale, aged for two years in wood, and a fresh strong mild. A very complex beer with almost Madeira-like flavour, with treacle, malt and tannic notes and a fruity finish and refreshing sourness.

Bottle. Poured opaque dark with a tan head. In the nose I got sourness (citrus), limonade and vanilla. The taste was reminiscent of wine, both sweet and sour and dry tannins. OK

Bottle. A dark brown beer topped by a creamy, light tan head of very moderate size. Dried fruits, balsamic vinegar, rum-raisins, some dark malts. The flavor has a littlr roasted touch, with hints of dark chocolate. Rum raisin, balsamic vinegar and dark dried fruits too. Sweetness too. Full body and a soft carbonation, with dried fruits and some balsamic vinegar in the finish. Not really sure about this one. Sure it’s nice as hell, but still. Well, I’ll stick to my score. 140815

Courtesy of & thanks to Kraddel. 500 cl. bottle sampled @ “Poppyland Sucks Tasting” @ the Barely legal tasting room. Bottle says that this is a collaboration with Alvinne. Pours a dark brown with a coffee head only on the sides. Nose is quite vinous, lots of wood, red grapes and wood varnish. Lightly sour taste, red grapes, lots of wood, varnish, oxidated sherry, old wood, red grapes, nail polish, bit watery. Not much else going on here than varnish and red grapes. Seems like they overdid it. Maybe 2 years was far too long. Enjoyable still but nothing impressive and it certainly could have been a lot better.
