kempicus (146), Wellington, New Zealand Mar 14, 2008 2007 vintage. Very interesting beer.....pours dead flat, definite sharpness on the nose, flavour is remeniscient of very dry sherry and a tart gueuze.
jimthechap (122), Christchurch, New Zealand Jul 1, 2008 I could die quite happily with only having this beer on a desert island with me and a box of cigars.
Luscious dark cherry and vanilla flavours that linger on the palate. This beer doesn’t need to be the best looking beer on the rank with fluffy heads and copper tones. It is a deep red and its scent makes it well worth further exploration. Interesting raisin flavours to ruminate on.
I found that as I was drinking it, I became more amenable to the surrounding human race. Something to do with the barley wine alcohol content of over 10% probably. I like to blame the aenima of the beer itself.
Lovely. Ungstrup (10863), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 4, 2008 Bottled. A murky orange-brown beer with no head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit, slightly over ripe - especially oranges and peaches. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of fruit - again slightly on the over ripe side, as well as medium notes of alcohol tickling the tongue. Thanks to Papsoe for hauling this home from NZ. KimJohansen (2460), Copenhagen V, Denmark Mar 30, 2008 Hazy deep amber with tiny short lasting head. Sweet aroma with notes of berries. Sweet flavor with abricot and caramel notes. Storm (2677), Amager, Denmark Mar 30, 2008 Blind tasting at Papsoe’s. Hazy amber colour with a weak head. Aroma of citrus, malt and burned caramel. Sweet flavour of fruit, wood, malt and caramel. Ends up sweet and fruity with a strong malt-base. joergen (6148), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 26, 2008 Bottle.
Muddy orange red coloured with a small off white ehad.
Sweet aroma of alcohol and dried fruits with notes of herbs and spices.
Sweet and fruity flavour of dill, herbs, dried fruits and spices with notes of wood and alcohol.
Light alcoholic finish.
