Draft. A deep red beer with a light tan head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as just a touch of butterscotch, leading to a dry bitter finish. The body is light.

Draught at the Twisted Hop, Christchurch. Pours cola brown with a frothy off white head. Aroma of toasted malt, fruit and nuts. The flavour is toasted malt, nuts, caramel and fruit. Medium bodied. Extremely smooth mouthfeel and low bitterness. A subtle beer with great flavour.

I love brown ales. I love that my local brews a brown ale and I love that it had returned after a year. The flavours were complex and nutty like a brown ale should be, and it is a credit to the man who brews it (although he is of only limited use to doing the cryptic crossword).

I was surprised by this, i was expecting a standard nutty brown ale but the lovely smokey flavour to it gives it a really different aspect, very enjoyable beer

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear brown with a tanned head and nice lacings. Quite bitter with a hint if a sweet caramel backbone. Fruity hops aromas. Grapes. Medium to light bodied. Hint of liquirish. Very soft carbonation. Long dry finish.

Pint at the brewery. Beautiful malty dark brown colour. Rich full head. A fantastic balance of dark malts and subtle hops combines to deliver a well balanced smooth but complex enough drop. This is a great beer.

Tasted 25/05/2007. Flagon, from the brewery, served via my infamous Scotsman’s beer engine (i.e. a weedsprayer).
Gorgeous combination of toasty and cocoa-like dark malts and fruity hops. Suave, svelte, sexy. Creamy mouthfeel and superbly fresh. I didn’t take any notes, and I drunk too much after this one to remember the finer points, but I can assure you it’s a cracker. Looking forward to my next trip to Christchurch already...
