kempicus (186), Wellington, New Zealand Apr 21, 2008 My least favourite from the line of real ales, seemed popular at the pub but i wasn’t taken with it, was nice enough but seemed slightly over attenuated so it didn’t have the body i was expecting had a nice enough blackcurrant/blackberry nose and flavour but nothing much else to interest me.
Papsoe (10247), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 26, 2008 (On tap) Cloudy brown with a warm tint of red and an off-white head. Fantastic, complex aroma of wood, raisins and alcohol. Medium-bodied and almost flat with very complex flavours - again raisins, wood and perhaps a little Port. Short and dry finish. Lovely. 21 IBU. 240108 NoiZe (944), Zeist, Netherlands Jan 23, 2008 I’ve had this one in New Zealand on my honeymoon. Visited the Twisted Hop and drank it there.
Certainly a nice strong ale. Stew41 (883), Caulfield, Australia Oct 23, 2007 Updated: Oct 24, 2007On cask at the pub. Very dark brown with a faint red tinge. Nice thin coffee coloured head. Unique aromas of spice, cooked fruits and malts, and a touch of cinnamon. Fruity palate with plenty of malt impact. Aniseed, a faint hint of treacle, light chocolate. Slightly dilutive finish but otherwise pretty good. greig (64), Hamilton, New Zealand Aug 17, 2007 On cask at the pub. This beer reminds me of Fuller’s ESB on steroids. It pours a reddish brown with a creamy white head. On the palate, big caramel flavours with a note of warming alcohol, some biscuity malt, and a silght woodyness, as if it had been oak aged. A hint of vanilla rounds out the solid bitter finish.
