Bottled. Pours light gold with good carbonation and a lacy white head. Good nucleation makes for a great appearance. Immediate aroma smothered with orange citrus and grapefruit and a hint of buttery diacetyl underneath. Flavor leans sweet and malty rather than dry and peppery; crystal malt sweetness fades into a beatdown of hops and high alcohol. Notes of rum cake, butterscotch, white raisin. Finish is rather difficult to muster; just a bit over the top for me, lacking the balance and crisp peppery dryness only found in a few top-tier double IPA’s. Still rather enjoyable, I hope to try more of their beers soon.

from Birreria Edelweiss@Alba Adriatica; 10.1% - quite clear amber beer with a decent head retention; fresh aroma of oranges and papaye, very hoppy; full-bodied, fairly sweet, moderate carbonation, light sticky, a robust bitterness develops lately but remains under control of the strong sweetness; long piney resiney finish with more notes of oranges

Taste is moderate to strong sweet, caramel, fruity-candy, tropical fruit, bit floral-pine, moderate bitterness, quite boozy. Full bodied, oily, moderate carbonation. Too sweet and boozy.

Can from Biernavigatie, BB May 30th 2015, large sample. Clear golden cllor, short frothy head. Aroma of biscuity and cookie malt, bit grainy even, grapefruit, citrus. Whole grain cookie with citrus and orange marmelade in taste. Slight alcohol. Has lost a bit of hop power probably. Orange marmelade and whole grain cookie sums it all up. I like it.

Aroma of citrus, orange, tangerine, pine, grapefruit, floral notes, resin, some pale malts, caramel, some pepper, big hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a long bitter finish. Slightly boozy. Body is appropriately full and thick. Being a particular fan of citrus-heavy IPA I loved this one.

Canned 355ml. -from Pivoteka Zagreb. Unclear golden coloured, medium sized off-white head, grapefruity and peachy nose. Sweet malty, caramel, grapefruity hoppy and really strong alcohol with again sweet and strong alcoholic finish. Drinkable but quite boozy stuff.

Chaotic Double IPA 9.7% can from Korea. Pouring an orange copper with a dense light beige head the nose is sweet hoppy citrus zest and a solid malt backbone. Full bodied with a raspy mouthfeel. The taste is malty sweet caramel, earthiness and bitter piney hops with light citrus notes. Not sure on the date on this one but it’s pretty well balanced with a piney flavor playing off of malty caramel fudge. Solid.

Can. An unclear orange-colored beer topped by a small, off-white head. The aroma is very piney and resiny, with some orange notes and a touch of pale malts. It’s full-bodied and quite smooth on the palate, rather dry, even though it’s at 9.7% ABV. Pale malts in the back, lots of bitterness, and resiny, piney and grapefruity hops. Lasting hop dominated finish. Quite lovely this one, although a bit too heavy to drink a lot of. 150622

Hazy copper and orange coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, pine, peaches, apricots, earth and quite a bit of candy sugar. Full-bodied; Deep and super pungent resinous hops at first with a large malt note, some strong alcohol and cleanser like flavours and a finish that shows some citrus along with a lot of hop elements. Aftertaste shows some sweetness from the fruits alongside a large malt and alcohol presence, but the palate lingers with herbal and grassy hop bitterness - super strong, and nice. Overall, this screams Southern California Imperial IPA and it delivers - a nice robust beer with a great profile and excellent body. Add in that it comes in a can and is available on the East Coast, and there is a winner. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2014 for US$3,99 sampled at home in Washington on 21-June-2015. Date Received in Store: 30-September-2014.
