Bottled. Pours light gold with good carbonation and a lacy white head. Good nucleation makes for a great appearance. Immediate aroma smothered with orange citrus and grapefruit and a hint of buttery diacetyl underneath. Flavor leans sweet and malty rather than dry and peppery; crystal malt sweetness fades into a beatdown of hops and high alcohol. Notes of rum cake, butterscotch, white raisin. Finish is rather difficult to muster; just a bit over the top for me, lacking the balance and crisp peppery dryness only found in a few top-tier double IPA’s. Still rather enjoyable, I hope to try more of their beers soon.

large, off white head with good retention, plenty of lace.Lightly hazy, copper hued brew. Nose is lightly fruity, lightly resiny and a tad boozy. Med/full bodied, soft carbonation, WARM. Mildly sweet malts, some caramel, mostly, slight fruity hops. Fairly dry finish thats fairly well dominated by alcohol. Bomber from statelineliquors.

12oz can. Poured a golden color with a smaller sized off white head. Fruity, pine, floral and citrus. Some caramel in the tastes with the alcohol well hidden.

12oz can @ KBF 2014. Pours a clear honey orange color with a foamy khaki head that settles to a thin film. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with a bigger citrus zest flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. Lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel.

From a can. Pours orange/amber, minimal head, biscuit aroma, not overly hoppy, no hint of the big alcohol content and a smooth malt finish.

12oz can pours a lightly hazy, dark orange with some lacing white head. Nose has a lot of pine, some biscuit with orange jam, soap, some candy, some honey, grapefruit rind. Flavor is sweet, honey, soapy, some mild perfume, but lots of citrus, orange and grapefruit mostly. Full, sticky, bitter finish.

22oz bottle - Aroma - very subdued for a IIPA, floral notes with some light cattyness and hand soap. Had to swirl several times to keep getting notes. Appearance - burnt amber body, very light haze, 2-finger foamy head, average rentention, light lacing Mouthfeel - medium carbonation, medium mouthfeel, a touch of alcohol burn Flavor - caramel malt buries a majority of the hop flavors, but there is some vegetal bitterness in the quick finish. The malt hides the nearly 10% very well. Overall - a malt bomb that fails to satisfy the hop craving. While far from overly-sweet, it’s too unbalanced for my liking in a IIPA. Could have passed for a malty IPA.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear, dark copper with minimal head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Taste is heavily bitter. Loads of pine with grapefruit and other citrus. Full bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long bitter finish. Overall, great beer. I would love to try more from these guys.

Gravity dispense at GBBF ’14, day 4, 15/08/14. Hazed golden orange with a moderate off white covering that retains well. Nose is doesn’t deliver much for 9.7%! Orange, light spice, bread dough, faint mango. Taste comprises sweet mango, light green pepper, straw, light booze, citric pith, trace of coconut fudge. Medium + body, soft carbonation, with warming alcohol and light spice in the close. Ok DIPA but a good few notches short of top draw.

CAN. Golden in colour with little head. Sweet on the nose with caramel butterscotch traits. Really sweet upfront with a sticky toffee like after taste, hides the alcohol very well. Sourced Cape Cellars
