COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
#4 of 12, Crafted with malted barley, orange blossom honey, Citra hops, Tasmanian pepper berries, and Bhudda’s hand zest. 8% ABV, label design by Lael Har.

For the Artisan Ale Project, Twisted Pine developed twelve distinct new beers and then enlisted the help of a dozen talented Colorado artists for artwork to adorn the labels. On the first Saturday of every month in 2012, the brewery will introduce a small batch of one of the ales at a special release-party which will double as an art show for that month’s featured artist. The Artisan ales will come in sleek, black 750ml glass bottles and will mark the brewery’s first foray into that size packaging. Quantities will be limited, especially for the barrel-aged beers in the series. Distribution of the bottles will be restricted to Colorado accounts and the Twisted Pine ale house will have each new beer on tap for as long as supplies last. Twisted Pine is proud to be part of a very artistic community in Colorado and excited to release a product that supports and celebrates the arts and the art of crafting a fine beer.

Slightly hazy gold pour with a bubbly thin head. Pretty earthy and herbal aroma, like grassy hops and a touch of lavender, with some drying honey tones and a touch of earthy graininess. Flavor is nice and full but the body just felt weird, kinda slick and bubbly...unsure how else to describe it. The lavender tones come back with a mild honey sweetness, as well as a good dose of that herbal hoppiness from the aroma, and some dry citrus rind bringing some mild bitterness that lasts through the finish. Enjoyable, but a little weird. As it warms, more honey tones come through, with a bit more citrus and a bit more herbs.

Bottle at the Colorado Mead Tasting ’12, courtesy of Aaron. Thanks Man! Pour is hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Floral hops, honey comb, medicinal, herbal, lemon peel, citrus, and clove in the aroma. Tate is herbal, band-aid, lemon peel, white peeper, yeasty, and biscuit with a spicy finish. Light mouthfeel with high carbonation. Very belgian-esque and pretty tasty.

Colorado mead tasting 2012 - hazy gold - a rather fizzy pour - nose of orange zest, wildflowers, a bit of pepper - flavor is medium dry and very floral - spicy and peppery through the middle - moderately bitter and lightly acidic in the finish, with lingering peppery spice - maybe a little too bitter, but this is a nice beer - should probably be listed as a Belgian strong ale, though.

2012 Colorado Mead Tasting at Armin’s house. Pours a hazy yellow appearance with a bubbly, white head. Zesty lemon, citrusy, a bit tropical fruity, light honey, bubbly carbonated aroma. Somewhat floral, grassy, zesty lemon, fruity, refreshing flavor. Not bad.

Poured into a snifter. Limited release #4 of 12. 3.0 A: Moderately hazed dark yellow color. Three fingers of frothy white head. Retention is a bit below average and little lacing is left. 3.5 S: Big honey from the start, like it should be. Huge herbalness including chamomile and dandelion. Earthy and peppery spiciness. Neutral, lightly grainy maltiness. Pleasant nose. 3.5 T: Lots of honey, but I still want some more. Again spicy pepper, herbal tea variety of herbalness, and dirty earth. Clean, grainy malts. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation with a light spritziness to it. Smooth. 3.5 D: I’m a big fan of braggots, and while it isn’t bad, it’s not super complex or super potent. I prefer braggots to have an unholy amount of honey. Still, definitely worth a buy since there is a paucity of braggots on the market and this one is tasty. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-29-2012 04:02:45

Pours a slightly cloudy orange color with a huge white head. A nice honey and floral aroma with a fairly herbal and spicy aroma. Some pepper notes, a bit of yeast, and a mild citrus hop aroma. The flavor is somewhat sweet, but also a bit tart and citrusy on the finish. Some pepper, mild herbs, and lemon. Kind of has a tea character to the flavor.

Pour on tap at the Denver Summer Brew Fest, clear yellow pour with white head, aroma brought notes of white pepper, floral and slightly phenolic notes, some floral honey in there as well, touch of bread and vanilla notes, some nice spice as well. Taste is pretty sweet but dries out well, some nice honey, floral and grassy notes, some spice, touch of white pepper. Pretty decent.

750 ml. capped bottle. 8% ABV. Ingredients include Budda’s Hand, Citra Hops, Orange Blossom Honey, Tasmanian Peppercorns and malted barley per the breweries web site. Pours a huge, fluffy white head, with attractive lacing, over an initially clear, later hazy, yellow (SRM 4) body.....nose is light honey, heavy citrus, Budda’s Hand....taste is honey, citrus, light sweetness, finishing with a lingering low (Saison like) pepper bite.......mouth feel light, slightly sticky, alcohol hidden, carbonation, after initial pour, low. This is called a Braggot by the brewery, which is, in essence, a mixture of Mead and Ale. It does not really fit into the broad Mead category used by Ratebeer. This is a complex, interesting, creation in an unusual style. It is a bit of a melange of several different styles, but is indicative of the brew communities creativity. BJCP 7/3/13/4/7
