3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 mensch (187) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - AUG 30, 2012Opaque brown, head dissipates a little too quickly. The aroma is coffee and roast grain, stronger on the exhale after a sip. Surprisingly sweet at first, then the dark roast bitterness and coffee flavor follow. Long finish, like an espresso shot with sugar. My new favorite lawnmower beer.

Opaque black with a thin rim head and tiny swirls of lace. Mild, almost watery, going in; quickly grows into solid bitter black coffee, finishing with the return of slight sweetness that lingers through the finish. A lot of flavor for 6%abv. Recommended.

On tap at 5290 in the Denver airport. Crazy coffee flavor. I can see why they suggest breakfast with this beer. Very tasty

Pours a dark brown... somewhere between brown and black with a good sized head and nice lacing on the glass.
The beer smells roasty and coffee forward, it’s got some chocolate and a light chalkiness in the aroma.
The flavor is roasty and fairly dry... there is an abundance of very dark roasted coffee and a nice hint of chocolate throughout.
Very enjoyable.

Tap at Brixx pizza. Pours a dark black with rusty copper edges. One finger of chestnut tan head. This one tastes and smells like straight coffee. Some roast in the nose. Light metallic acidity. Same in the flavor. Very dry with some acidity and bitterness on the finish.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle via trade. It pours thick and black with a dense and lasting tan head. It certainly is a looker. Roasty nose with notes of earth, vanilla, and coffee beans. Roasty and dry on the tongue with nice coffee notes. Full bodied with a nice, smooth mouthfeel and a slightly chalky finish. Great beer.

Dark black pour with a reddish-brown head and good lacing. Aroma is roasted coffee with a little spice and earth. Flavors follow the aroma, with some chocolate a nice bitter finish.

According to the bottle, espresso was added to the beer. How much, I don’t know, but it definitely blends well with the, no doubt, already rich malt profile of this nice stout. It pours black with a light-to-medium brown colored head that quickly fades, through a bubbly transition, to near nothingness. The aroma is of rich, soft chocolate and smooth coffee. It’s thinner in the mouth than you’d expect from the full nose, and that allows the espresso flavor to be delivered very easily, unmuddled by a potentially thick, rich-flavored beer. Yes, it is still rich, but not as malty as you might think.
It’s soft in the mouth, with bitter roasted malts up front, its thin body lets the beer slide right through the mouth, and finishes at first with a touch of chocolate, then some roasted bitterness, and finally straight up espresso. Not beans, nor ground espresso, rather brewed espresso. Although it’s low on alcohol, it offers a nice warmth in the chest, no doubt thanks to the (actual) espresso. Nice for such a light-bodied beer. Easy and fast-drinking, of all the Twisted Pine beers I’ve had I’d say this is second only to their Northstar Imperial Porter.

Sample at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/26/2013: The beer pours jet black with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and subtle coffee. Light to medium body with a roasty character consisting of malt and coffee, plus a bit of chocolate. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bomber from Sam’s, Durham. Nice oily black pour with a potent, filmy cappucino head on top. Nose is a bit muted compared to how I like ’em - burn me, Jack! - but still an invitingly roasty, chocolatey sludge bomb. Hefty body, a bit of chalk and grit in the finish. Flavors are a tad sweeter than I prefer as well, but this one hits the mark for the most part.
