COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppy Boy India Pale Ale is the flagship beer of Twisted Pine. It has a rocky white head, hazy pale orange color, and hoppy citrus aroma. It has a dry, tart taste with an earthy bitterness. Cascade hops provide pleasant grapefruit and citrus notes. This classic American IPA is brewed with medium caramel malts that play off the citrus and orange rind hop flavors to make this beer most enjoyable.

22oz bottle sampled in mid-August ’06: Pours a clear dark golden bronze with a nicely-lacing frothy white head. Aroma has a big, fresh piny spruce and grapefruity hoppy presence with a nice, mild crystal malty balance. Body starts with a semi-sweet toasty caramel maltiness with good fresh piny citrus hoppy balance. Very smooth and drinkable, a nice IPA.

Cloudy light amber with decent head. Light flowery pine aroma. Very light IPA with a slightly bitter finish. Just not much to go off here. As far as IPA’s go, don’t bother.

on tap-pours an off white head with slight hazy gold color. Aroma is citrus hops, secondary sweet malt. Taste is citrus hops with a bite, secondary sweet malt-light caramel. OK carbonation.

Pumpkin hued body. Unfiltered. Broken but compact white foam. Fresh hop bouquet of honeysuckle and orange oil. Touch of diacetyl beneath the hops. Soft and creamy carbonation. Initially airy but fairly dense with citric hop flavors kissed with brash pine. Gentle honeycomb sweetness deepens the caramel-drizzled malt notes. Hops impart some chalkiness, but thankfully retain some of their luster. Medley of succulent citrus complements the acidity which provides lift and refreshment, but the pillow-soft malts keep the acidity at bay. Finishes with much more hop flavor than brashness, as fresh peaches and oranges underscore the understatedly coarse pine. Although subtle, the diacetyl is a minor drawback in the aroma. But this serves quite well as an introductory to the style, as it’s very soft and well balanced.

Poured a light hazy gold color with a small white head. Hoppy aroma with notes of citrus, earth, pine and oranges. Large hoppy flavor from the start to the finish consisting of pine and citrus. Moderately bitter finish. Semi-dry.

Lively fruit nose, with some citrus and grapefruit. Slightly herbal immediately followed by some bread dough maltiness, not really what I would have like in the malt bill, but the hopping in this IPA is really tasty, too bad everything else about it is subpar.

bottle. orange/amber pour with thin head. hops and grapefruit aroma. very crisp but not complicated. livelyon the palate. decent hops and grapefruit. No bite to speak of. The flavor comes quick and dissappears quicker. Not bad but as far as ipa’s go not impressive.

Just had this from the bottle not long ago and have already almost forgotten everything about it. I think that describes the beer the best. It’s an IPA and is pretty much exactly what you would expect and nothing more. Kind of boring IPA overall.

4 oz sampler at the brewery, 4/15/06: Light orange. Decent hop aroma. Get a bit of the oil in the grink, but it’s a bit thin compared to the monsters in town. Can’t hang.
