This is a good beer, it just needs a new name. I expected more hops from it. It's tasty, but the hops level in this would a akin to a Baconator with 2 strips on it.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not your prototypical ipa but I kind of enjoyed it. Soft but passable hop aroma w/ a clear golden pour & thin white head. The taste has an underlying bitterness but isnít dry & is quite drinkable. I understand the low scores for the style but found it to be a decent beer overall!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy dark gold/amber with a tall, sticky white head.
Fruity citrus hop aroma.
The flavor is mostly bitter but there is a good malt support balancing this out nicely.
Good solid IPA.

A fairly basic IPA. The usually hoppy nose and piney flavor. Good alcohol and balanced well.

Pours a hazy golden with a smallish, but lasting head. Aromas of pine and grapefruit. Aromas continue in the taste. Little bitterness and finishes light. I like it.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks Tom L. Hazy blond with white head. Soft citrus aroma, then grain and some honey. Sourish and unpleasing, spoiled orange juice taste. Medium body, almost no carbonation, a little juicy finish.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle--hazy, amber color with a large frothy head. Piney notes in the aroma with medium bitterness. Run of the mill IPA. Total wine.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks Tom L. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of grains, citric and floral hops, a bit stale, and an acidic touch. Sourish flavor, kinda weird, with some citric hops, a bit stale and a bit "green" and some bitterness. Medium-bodied. The sourness is weird.

2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
While drinking this brew, I had to ask myself a crucial question: why the hell did I buy Twisted Pineís Hoppy Boy? Thing is, this was a shot-in-the-dark selection. Usually, when I make a random pick I base it on one of three criteria: A.) the brew has a cool name B.) the brew features eye-catching artwork C.) I like the brewery. None of these three played a part in my decision. For starters, I think Hoppy Boy is a lame-ass name and the artwork (just some hops and green label) was less than exciting. As for the brewery, I havenít been impressed by any of Twisted Pineís beers. So why did I pick this? It was an IPA that I hadnít tried yet. Dumbass reason to pick a beer and the jokeís on me for doing so. Twisted Pine is actually very attractive with its orange color, light haze, and foamy head. The aroma is nice, too. I liked the notes of pineapple, grapefruit, and caramel. Things went wrong with the taste, though. First sip was particularly bad. The sweet malts clashed with the earthy bitterness. Flavors changed dramatically as the brew warmed. Even a few degrees made a large difference in taste. For a brief period of time, Hoppy Boy (still hate that name) seemed to strike a nice balance. However, it didnít stay that way for long. In the end, this ale tasted thin and weak. At that point, I was just glad that the offensive properties had faded. In short, balance was way off in this brew. Beer geeks sometimes knock IPAís because itís easy to mask faults with lots of hops. In the case of Hoppy Boy, the brewers didnít even try to hide the beerís shortcomings.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is pine, hemp, resin, and citrus. Medium mouthfeel with nice bitter grapefruit, pine, and nice bitter finish, easy to drink, good.
