Hoppy Knight is brewed to celebrate Twisted Pine’s 15th Anniversary and is named after our founder and craft beer industry legend Gordon Knight. This India-style Black Ale tastes like a big classic IPA but pours dark as night. A very subtle sweetness and roastiness is provided by the carafa malt, but this beer is really all about the hops(85 IBUs). Hoppy Knight is heavily dry-hopped to provide a wonderful floral aroma. Citrusy grapefruit flavors hit you up front and linger through to the finish.

Bottle. Pours a thick, dense onyx with a lingering head of beige that clings nicely to the glass. Nose is light mango with grapefruit and rose. Flavor is hoppy pine sap offset by a delicate sourdough and rose. Oily on the tongue. Wow; VERY tasty. Definite repeat. Love the pine backbone.

Bomber. Pours clear chestnutty mahogany with 1-finger off-khaki head. Nose is roasty black patent malt, pine needly spruce, cacao, hops. Tastes a bit thin of palate, with rpasty malt matched by mid-palate resiny sprucey hops and some cacao and coffee in the finish.

Pours a translucent blackish brown on tap with thin tan head and good lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, and that’s about it. Very strong on the coffee, slight bitter aftertaste that implies IPA. Meh.

Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma is hoppy and piney chocolate and coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and hops. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick and dry. Leaves a smokey after taste. Well done.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a slight hop with an even smaller malt presence. Flavor is a little better. A nice roasted malt, some sweetness and then comes a minor hop. This was more about the dark malts then showcasing the hops used.

It poured a dark brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was citrus, resiny piney notes, with some sweet chocolate and minor roast notes. The taste was chocolate, citrusy hop notes and a hint of roastiness. A very good Black IPA.

Pours a respectable black with a touch of ruby in it. Aroma is amazing... dark chocolate, some espresso and a touch of smoke rounds out the awesome nose. Somewhere though, there is a bit of sweet orange notes playing in the nose. Clean flavor of citrus and pine followed by dark roasted malt and smokey cocoa. Overall, this was really pleasurable to drink.

7/5/12. On tap at Proof. Light brown pour, plenty of reds under the light, under a nice tan head that laces in small spotty rings. Big roasted malt aroma with bitter dark grains and coffee. Lingering coffee and dark, bitter malts hit strong and remain. There’s also a touch of milk chocolate and citrus. Not a ton of hop character. Eh.

(Draught) Pours a dark brown (near black) body with medium cream head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, graham cracker, pine, and grass. Flavor of roasted malt, dark chocolate, grass, and earth with a dry, somewhat bitter finish.

Pour on tap at the brewery, pour was dark brown with thin slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, grass, pine needle, some slight roast as well. Taste was pretty basic and kinda separated, with notes of pine and grass, some roast and other caramel notes, finishing fairly bitter. Average for the style.
