COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppy Knight is brewed to celebrate Twisted Pine’s 15th Anniversary and is named after our founder and craft beer industry legend Gordon Knight. This India-style Black Ale tastes like a big classic IPA but pours dark as night. A very subtle sweetness and roastiness is provided by the carafa malt, but this beer is really all about the hops(85 IBUs). Hoppy Knight is heavily dry-hopped to provide a wonderful floral aroma. Citrusy grapefruit flavors hit you up front and linger through to the finish.

Jet black with a finely beaded tan head. Aroma of roast malt and floral hops. Firm hop bitterness, rich burnt carmel and espresso flavors, followed by more bittters, this time from the dark malts. Big, tasty, and well integrated flavors. Really nice.

Bottle. Pours an almost-black color with very little head. Floral hoppy notes hit you right off the bat. Smack in the face. Taste has some great floral and citrus notes. Balanced well without being too hoppy.

Bottle: What a great Black IPA / India Black Ale / Cascadian Dark -- or whatever you care to call it. Clear and deep chestnut brown. Lightish, easy-to-drink texture. Massive blast of spicy hops from the beginning to end. Big, lasting notes of pine, grapefruit, oranges and grass. Aromatic, wildflower-like aromas. Perfect amount of bitterness along with a mild sweetness. Woodsy malts take the backseat to the hops, as they should, and they provide a nice platform for the hops. And right in the finish, there’s an awesome sweet flavor that I can’t put my finger on. Overall, I was really impressed with this IBA.

Bottle. Pours a thick, dense onyx with a lingering head of beige that clings nicely to the glass. Nose is light mango with grapefruit and rose. Flavor is hoppy pine sap offset by a delicate sourdough and rose. Oily on the tongue. Wow; VERY tasty. Definite repeat. Love the pine backbone.

Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma is hoppy and piney chocolate and coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and hops. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick and dry. Leaves a smokey after taste. Well done.

This bottle was sent to me courtesy of Strykzone. Thanks Dave. Pours near black with a foamy tan head. Nose of roasted malts, earth along with pine and citrus hops. Medium to full in body. Smooth mouth feel . Flavor is roasted malts, with the pine and citrus hops and it moves to a light bitter finish Not as big as some black IPAs but exceptionally drinkable. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pours black with a lovely fine beige crema. Black treacle and citrus aromas, then a rich and complex body with roast malt and treacle at the front, then citrus emerging along with hints of pine resin, and finishing burnt bitter and roast malt plus lingering citrus. Delicious.

Draught from tap room. Black with very white thick head lasting. Aroma is roasty, gamy, diner coffee. Flavor is rich refreshing like porter but with big bitter that took me through.

The pour is a clear, dark garnet color with a fairly small, beige, pillowy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves a bit of drippy lace rings. The nose is nice with lots of honeyed breads, some Colombian roast coffee, resins, floral, some tangerine, and dark chocolate. The flavor is similar with more tangerine, floral and resins, similar coffee, more bread crusts, toasted caramel, and dark chocolates. The palate is thin, watery, oily, medium, and lively. The finish is mostly hoppy with tangerine almost turning ruby red grapefruit-like, still the resins, dark chocolate, and the same Colombian coffee. Similar to Anderson Valley Hop Ottin IPA with the honeyed malts and crisp clean hop notes. However, the dark chocolates and coffee notes added to the bitterness to make for something unique. Not something I would consider a black IPA, but certainly a unique beer somewhere between a standard IPA and a Black IPA; but I guess with this style just emerging, new intricacies are bound to emerge. I am surprised by the very low ratings; this was by no means great, but certainly more worthy than the scores it has received.

Pours a respectable black with a touch of ruby in it. Aroma is amazing... dark chocolate, some espresso and a touch of smoke rounds out the awesome nose. Somewhere though, there is a bit of sweet orange notes playing in the nose. Clean flavor of citrus and pine followed by dark roasted malt and smokey cocoa. Overall, this was really pleasurable to drink.
