Hoppy Knight is brewed to celebrate Twisted Pine’s 15th Anniversary and is named after our founder and craft beer industry legend Gordon Knight. This India-style Black Ale tastes like a big classic IPA but pours dark as night. A very subtle sweetness and roastiness is provided by the carafa malt, but this beer is really all about the hops(85 IBUs). Hoppy Knight is heavily dry-hopped to provide a wonderful floral aroma. Citrusy grapefruit flavors hit you up front and linger through to the finish.

Bomber poured darkest brown. Resiny hop flavor is tasty, but not enough else for support- muddled. Body is a bit too thin. Faint roast note to finish.

Nice strong light brown head of dense and creamy bubbles. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were some oats in the grain bill. Dry and dusty aroma with some milk chocolate, malted milk balls, toasted grains and light anise. Not much hops presence but this brew may be a bit on the older side. Color is a very dark brown with a hint of red along the edges. Medium bodied with lots of toasty flavors. Some dark chocolate, burnt toast, moderate bitterness (grapefruit pith) and spruce. Light lingering bitterness and very little alcohol presence. A decent black IPA, but when you factor in the clearence price of $1.99 for a bomber, it makes this beer a bit better! ;)

Pours a dark brown with light brown head. Has a chcolate and coffee aroma. Taste is a mic of coffee, hops, and grains. A bitter hop and grain aftertaste. Hops missing added flavor in this beer.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leightonian. Opaque black brown beer, mahoosive pale tan head. Palate is minerally crisp and semi dry. Thin and mild dark malts, mellow coffee tang. Hops are a recessed floral bitter affair. Also a touch of bitter marmalade. Airy finish. Not bad.

Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, thanks to Leighton, 04/11/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a big old light tan covering that retains well. Nose is brown bread, light pine, nutty, bitter citric, grapefruit, hint of coffee. Taste comprises bitter tropicals, earthy tones, mineral wash, faint soap, pine, light charr. Medium bodied, spritzy and overcarbed, semi drying close laced with earthy hop bitterness. Adequate CDA but lower order in the grand scheme of things.

Bottle shared in London - picked up in Vermont. Pours amber brown with a large, creamy tan head. The aroma has some dried berries, suggestions of cocoa, burnt marshmallow. Light sweet flavor with lots of charred wood, earth, burnt pine. Light bodied with lively carbonation. Lightly astringent on the finish with lots of burnt wood, burnt pine, orange rind. So so.

The taste is bitter, piney, soapy, pepper, grapefruit, lemon peel, burnt wood, ashy roast and mild acidity with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Fine.

Bottle. Pours near black with a grayish brown head that dissipate slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of earthy pine that is joined by earthy dark grains and a bit of roasted malts. Flavor has the same earthy malt and earthy grain combination with some roast coming through towards the finish.

A below average for the style. Pours dark brown with a big head. The aroma is a bit of a metallic tin can. The taste is better with a bit of chocolate and malt. The flavor has a nice hop bite.
