La Petite Saison is a beautifully crafted beer brewed in the Belgian farmhouse style. The award-winning ale relies on Pilsener malt and white wheat, gently flattered with German Perle, Czech Saaz and American Willamette hops which add subtle, yet intricate flavoring to the beer. The Belgian yeast headlines the show, lacing palates with the delicate, floral esters for which the style is known. LPS is a smooth sipper with a crisp finish, and at 5.3% ABV skirts the upper range of session territory.

The yeasty notes in this saison make it a natural pairing for a variety of breads, cheeses and salads and it makes for a great backyard barbeque or watching the sun set over the Rocky Mountains.

First released in 2010 as Le Petit Saison, it was reintroduced in 2012 as a summer seasonal under the name La Petite Saison.

Hazy pour at twisted pine. Solid saison. Fuller saison. Medium body well carbed. Funky. Simple. Wheat, yeast, hay, and funk

Sort of average.Aroma is of fresh dough, banana, and very faint lemon/spice. The taste is somewhat lemony with a bit of spice and yeast. Finish is clean and sweet. Appearance is a typical yellow with little flecks of something floating about. Overall, it’s fine just forgettable.

On tap at Brooks Place, served in a tulip. Orange hazy appearance with an off-white head and sticky lacing. Aroma of light Belgian yeast, herbs, spicy hops, bready malts, floral notes, toasted grains and light fruity zest. Similar flavor, crisp with mild bitterness and light sweetness. Average body with a semi-dry finish. Pretty tasty and refreshing for $3.

Appearance: very light yellow, with a bold, bright white, bubbly, foamy, fluffy head and significant, persistent lacing. Aroma: typical saison aroma, with some funk, a bit of pineapple and graham cracker, maybe some mango. Taste: lime, honey nut cheerios, green grapes, lemongrass, light funk, hint of sea salt. Finish: slightly dry, with a bit of herbal bitterness to balance the funk. Notes: Certainly not the best saison I’ve had, but absolutely respectable. Bottle from Buddy’s (drive through!) Beer Barn in El Paso, Texas.

Poured into a glass, golden color, minimal white head, lively effervescence, nice floral aroma, soft hints of spice, a good beer.

Not a particularly spectacular saison. Honey, lemon, pepper, with a slightly watery finish.

A hazy pale golden with a good white head with great lacing. Aroma has biscuit malt with Belgian yeast banana, coriander and pepper spicing. Taste follows aroma with biscuity malt flavor along with some banana, coriander and pepper as well as a honey sweetness. Finishes with some sweetness and pepper. Light/medium body with crisp high carbonation. A little too sweet for my taste and somewhat over carbonated.

August 19th, 2012 - Twisted Pine has produced an excellent contribution to what ended up being the beginning of an American wave of interest in saisons. Like many others in the same class, this is a cloudy, unfiltered looking beer, with a light yellow patina, protected by a centimeter or so of otherwise uninteresting foam. The intrigue begins in the aroma, with banana, bread, walnuts and a light acidic edge, giving a touch of sharpness to a sweet, bread smelling brew. The flavor is mild, though thick with the aroma’s banana bread notes. A lighter carbonation and medium-soft aftertaste lead to a lovely, thick intensity, with a rich eggy touch and the lofty sweetness of a custard or flan. The palate itself is light, and unlike many continental saisons, lacks the dry scratchiness of the heavier grain notes preferred by the style’s progenitors, which I stereotype to be thick-necked French peasant farmers. Apparently we modern Americans take our saison with a touch more delicate sweetness, and I like it.

Bottle: Pours a bright golden color with astounding clarity. A finger of rocky white head leaves a light topper and small ring throughout. Aside from the yeast, there is not much to the aroma. Very minimal florals and grain. Similar description for the flavor; yeast, florals, and spent grain. Heavily carbonated. Sessionable.
