Rastacouere (5270), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Apr 25, 2005 Thanks Ernest. Dark chocolate colored, wearing a light brown head that very quickly leaves and becomes a timid ring. Aroma is light, mellow, could definitely be more expressive. The burnt nuts roastiness dominates the range over a slight fruity tang. Fairly tasty chocolate and roasted woodiness come out on the palate though. Quite dry as it evolves and warms, a bit bready, powdery texture. Smooth bodied, well rounded, mellow carbonation. Either this bottle was not at its best or I don’t get the drift. CaptainCougar (4636), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 6, 2003 Dark brown color with a thick tan head. Rich soy, plum and brown sugar aroma. Taste of sweet brown sugar and roasted malt in the body. Smooth, robust palate masks the alcohol quite well. Great complexity and balance make this a very enjoyable and flavorful brew. hopdog (4564), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 11, 2007 22oz bottle. Poured a dark, dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of roast, milk chocolate, some dark fruits (raisins and plums), roast, and light smoke. Tastes of chocolate, dark fruits, light roast, caramel, and vanilla. Creamy smooth body. Alcohol content hidden. Light lacing left on the glass. hopscotch (4477), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Mar 10, 2007 Bottle... O-Town Throwdown... This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Chocolaty aroma with hints of coffee and butterscotch (low level of diacetyl which seems to work really well with this beer). The flavor is chocolaty-sweet with rich caramel and only moderate bitterness. Full-bodied and velvety with subdued carbonation. Finishes chocolaty and sweet, but not cloyingly so. Thanks to Crosling for supplying the bottle of this world class brew! muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Apr 30, 2005 Bomber shared with MartinT, tiggmtl, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Yowie iin Montreal. Just a bit of dark, fading head tops the satiny black, oily body...light roastiness, a bit of chocolate are pleasant touches in an otherwise weak nose...salty, dark cocoa body, wisps of cherry...bit thin and perhaps oxidized...more fruits appear later, notably blueberry, but not enough to save this from relative mediocrity.
