Pours dark brown with a tan head. Mostly pine and some citrus hops on the nose. Some toasted grains, as well, with a good caramel contingent behind. This barely covers the soapy note that kills their normal IPA for me -- its better, and actually has a good blend of flavors, but that one note just jumps out in their brews, and is bringing this one back a couple of points. This one has enough sweet malt to counter, though, and does better than Evolutionary. Not great, but certainly not bad.

On tap at the brewery. Wowza. This was quite exceptional. Tons of pine hops all over the aroma and flavor. Nicely countered with roasty malts. I had no idea this was hiding 8.5% until the bartender said something after i was halfway through. Im definitely going to snag some bombers of this in the future.

Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Pours a dark brown with a medium frothy tan head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a light roast and hops. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet roast and light bitter finish. Hides alcohol well a good black IPA from Two Beers.

2/25/12. Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Dark brown pour with a nice khaki head. Hoppy aroma with touches of graininess and roast. Hops jump to the forefront - fresh and American - with lingering roast and smooth chocolate.

In a small tapered glass, on tap at The Met. Black as the ace of spades. Little head on this sample. Taste is overwhelmingly of malt and molasses, with a back note of hops on the way down. Nice.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a black / dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, citrus hops, and some toasted bread. Flavour of roasted malt to start, followed by nice, bitter citrus hops. Medium-bodied with a roasty, hoppy finish.

On tap. Dark and black. Huge hop nose. Taste is hops mellowed by and deep roast. Finish is clean and slow.
