ALLOVATE (2476) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 12, 2014
The bigger sister of the original two Birds I believe, more rounded and mature in profile, and just damn tasty. It looks sultry in the glass. A fiery chestnut, radiant and translucent with a fine bead and wickedly rocky, inch of off-white foam atop. An unexpected hint of ginger tea precedes big, biscuity sweet malts, roasted nuts, toffee and oak on the nose. Inside it is quite rounded and boldly flavoured with a lot of roasted malt, roasted nuts, earth and dust, herbal, spicy hops and touches of grass and bitter grapefruit. Frothy, medium-light bodied but easily sessionable. Dry in the finish with plenty of nutty, husky malts to linger it is reasonably sweet upfront to balance very nicely. This is a charmer of an ale. Quite surprising. Good stuff!!! (33cL, BB 18/09/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Bottle. Deep copper with reddish tints with a very thin off white head. Pleasant diet-toffee and maybe cola malt-driven start leading to a reasonably extended bitter finish with some slight fruity aromas hopping in along the way. Nice brown bread in there. Surprisingly thin mouth-feel and lively carbonation, considering the flavour profile, make this a strange but pleasant, refreshing but earthy, quaffer

Dark golden, leaving lace. Almost like a UK bitter, but more hoppy and florally. Quite bitter. Refreshing.

Pyobon (979) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - APR 19, 2014
(Bottle) Clear mid brown with reddish hints, and minimal head. Pleasant aroma of caramel with hints of pine and gunpowder. Light body with quite lively carbonation. Pleasant rich but not heavy taste, with a backbone of dark toffee, hints of stone fruit at the start and some crisp bitterness at finish. Pleasant, easy drinking, comforting.

A worthy entrant in the ’low strength but full bodied’ beer stakes. Probably even better than my initial rating indicates (3.9) - so I’ll have to have another to judge.

330ml Bottle. Deep amber tinted with brown covered in a thin white head. Aromas of tropical fruits and caramel malts. A rich toffee flavour, balanced with a fruity and floral character.

mattyhennessy (348) - Highton, AUSTRALIA - JAN 17, 2014
Deep amber colour with a prominent head, which could hold better. Good carbonation. Aromas of stone fruit and grapefruit. Malty caramel favours balanced with with grapefruit and stone fruits, with a distinctive apricot flavour. A delicious effort

Bottle. Deep amber with minuscule white head and a limited lacing. Immediate aroma of resinous hops although not overpowering, moving into a deep caramel malt. Flavours again begin with subdued, but dominate resinous pine, leading to a roast caramel and bread mid palate and a gentle citrus blossom finale. The hops are fantastic in this beer. Allowing for great flavour and bitterness without being overpowering. Improved as it warmed in the glass, probably about 10•c

The head is robust, the body darkred-brown. It smells hoparomatic, flowery, bit bitter, malty. The taste is hoparomatic, bit bitter, bit fruity, bit malty, flowery. Good.
