Tap at Busters. Pint glass. Pour leans on amber with minimal head. Aroma is pretty malty with some sugar presence too. Taste is strangely unique for an Oktoberfest. The malt is there along with a nearly rye sweetness. Subtle hops. Enjoy the finish. Surprised a little by the quality of this one. Worth a sample smash this time of year.

Medium amber color with a bit of an orange tint/highlight. Fairly clear. I can't get much out of the aroma, but that may have more to do with the glass and environment. Big malty flavor. Any hop character is minimal, a little bitterness in the finish. Solid medium body. I see other reviews mention a touch of a metallic note, and I can get that. Nice malty lager.

Bottle at home. Nose is oddly sweet, metallic, and synthetic. Malty? Flavors are similarly strange. I get a big sweet chemical taste. Light grassy hops. I don’t know, maybe a bad bottle?

On tap at Tribe’s Alehouse. Pour is hazy amber with a small cream colored head. Aroma and flavor of toasted bread, light caramel, tea leaves, raisin, and wheat. Finish is a bit of spice and caramel malt with a touch of oak.

Clear, amber pour with a thin off-white head. The aroma is a little earthy, but it has some sugary candy notes. It has a medium body with slick texture and average carbonation. The taste is mildly sweet with some alcohol in the finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a nice amber with lasting pillowy head and great chunky lacing. Aroma is woody, caramel, richer than most of the style. Taste is similar, thicker and creamier with mild oak tannin, caramel, wheat bread, sweet malts but heavy enough to avoid cloying. The aging gives this a mild sweet barleywine feel, which could be good or bad depending on expectations. Overall this is an interesting, unique fall beer. Too sticky and undercarbonated for the style though.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
A nice Marxen aroma on inital pour and initial taste doesn’t disappoint with characteristic Oktoberfest flavor. However finish is a bit unbalanced as oak aging over powers the palate and get more of a creamy tanin finish than is enjoyable

Draught at Dragon Kings Daughter in New Albany. Amber color. Caramel and toffee and a fairly amber taste. Lots of amber in this marzen.
