On tap at Binnys South Loop. Pours golden with a white head. Very heavy carbonation. Aroma is of spice, apples, bubblegum, citrus, and hops. Taste is of artificial fruit, hops, spice, cinnamon, and citrus. Lingering taste of honey. Very light and dry mouthfeel. Too many of the flavors seem artificial for this to be too enjoyable. Nothing spectacular.

Pours a very clear, bubble orange. Aroma of apples juice, some spice. Flavor is also spicey. I started out not really liking it, thinking there were some plastic-like off flavors. However, as I drink it, I start to dig it more. I get some bubble gum, some clove, cinnamon, caramel, ginger. I imagine this might be pretty awesome to warm up. "Nice" describes this ale well.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2009 22oz bottle(Binny’s Naperville)-Pours a very light clear amber with small ring for a head. Aroma of apples, caramel, clove, and spices. Served cold. Taste of the same with a bit of apple juice and slight Belgian yeast flavor. This light bodied beverage is quite drinkable and would be quite tasty warm. Nice seasonal drink.

Two Brothers Brewing Co. delivers splendidly with their apple spiced ale. The pour is crystal clear with a red tint and fluffy head. Allspice, apples, and cloves gently delight the senses as you sip down your glass. Cinnamon strikes the palette as well. The bottle claims you can drink the beverage hot or cold. This review is based on a chilled bottle, but I may have to include a future note if I heat up a mug of this stuff. I imagine the beer would be reminiscent of Austria’s Glühwein, a red wine served hot, which is popular around Christmas time. Actually from experience, this would be better. Avalon spiced ale stands head and shoulders above all the “hard ciders” you’ve had before. This isn’t a Magner’s or Woodchuck. I haven’t had a mixture of apples and alcohol that’s been this good.

Thanks to PilsnerPeter for sharing! Pours a mostly clear orangey amber with an ok fading head. Aroma is apple cinnamon spice, very floral, fruity, perfume-like, lots of potpourri, dried wildflowers, some lavendar, and jsut a ton of fruit and cinnamon and candied apples- meh. Flavor is overly sweet with candied apples, spice, cinnamon,. gingerbread, raisin, lots of honey sweetness and more apple. Mouthfeel is very sweet, but turns a bit slick, and turned into something that i didnt want to drink more than a few sips.

Bottle: Pours a clear copper with a bubbly/wispy off-white head. The aroma is spicy with notes of apple crisp and cinnamon, yet it’s not at all natural. Seems like a scented candle. Light bodied. The starts with all apple juice character, sweet and sugary. Then an abrupt spiciness of cinnamon and apple skin some through. The flavor are not at all cohesive, and seem unnatural. Very apple juice like, with no spice depth or malt nuances. Eh.

On tap at Jerry’s. Clear copper with decent, creamy beige head / Nose of apples, cream, and spice / Light to medium body, acidic, moderately sweet, with good, dry finish / Flavors of fresh cider, caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cardomom / Spice profile a touch strong, but it’s a very good cider.

Picked up at the Binny’s in Orland Park, IL. This could almost be a cider, judging by the aroma and taste. (I’ve sent in a correction to have this changed to a fruit beer instead of spice/herb/vegetable.) It has a clear amber body and a short-lived white head. The aroma is spiced-up apples - some cinnamon, something lightly bitter. A clove-like spiciness is added to the flavor. Interesting, but it’s just as well that this is part of a limited series.

bottle. pours amber with white head. nose of winter spices, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and potpourri. flavors are similar to a mulled wine, hot cider tasting as well, apples with cinnamon and cloves. way more like a cider than a beer.

Pours a clear glowing red/amber with a small white froth and some sparkling bubbles. Strong aroma of apple juice, cider, cinnamon stick, lightly tart, some potpourri. This might actually be a cider... very juicy and says "serve Hot or Cold." Not incredibly sweet or sticky/syrupy either, which is what I was expecting, especially coming from Two Brothers. Flavors of cider, light cinnamon, a bit grapey, light earthiness. Actually it tastes just like apple skins! As it warms up tastes a lot like candy apple on a stick. Medium body, not sticky, nice mouthful, lightly juicy with very smooth but sticky tingly carbonation. I could do this once a year during the Holidays.
