COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bare Tress Weiss Beer is a unique Barley Wine Style Ale. It is brewed with 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: “Within ever bare tree lives the promise of a new life.” CHEERS.

Once the gushing stopped, the beer poured a cloudy dark orange with no head but leaving some lace as the glass emptied. There were little clots of yeast at the bottom of the glass. The aroma was bready with some grapes and piney hops and a little butter. This beer was very dry and that, combined with the gushing, might indicate that it did not cellar really well. A little hop bitterness in the flavour but really nothing very interesting going on once you stop sniffing and get some into your mouth. Medium body, warming, explosive carbonation.

Cloudy light amber color with no head. Aroma of caramel, apples and alcohol. Flavor of apples, caramel and alcohol. Light to medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation.

Wow. Either this thing ages really well or I was having an off day when I reviewed the 2002 bottle. Dark copper color with a thick beige head that lasted pretty well. Thin and quick lacing. Huge aroma of wheat, malt, vanilla and oak. Rich, smooth body, with a complex blend of flavors. Wheat, sweet fruit, caramel and malt have nice interplay. Alcohol is hard to detect but a peppery aftertaste of it does come through periodically. The finish is round and wheaty, with the oak character asserting itself. Add to that I was really feeling the alcohol by the end of this bottle. A great beer.

Huge gusher upon opening. Mango, apricot, apple, caramelized butterscotch aromas are somewhat subdued. Strong sharpness in the nose. Opaque, muddy, dark orange-tan with plenty of flocculated chunks of yeast in suspension. Initial rocky off-white head recedes rapidly to thin cover. Apricot, pear and apple flavours are somewhat sour, muted and muddled. Some sharp finishing bitterness. Alcohol is very noticeable. Extremely dry finish. Very strong, aggressive carbonation is sharp on the tongue. Sampled as part of a three year Bare Tree vertical, this one does not seem to have aged gracefully. Bottle enjoyed with asheft, beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Rastacouere and Yowie.

Somehow paler than the 2000 as a dirty river muddy amber. Lots of large yeast chunks float around. Very light head despite gushing upon opening. This vintage also boasts a very bready, dough like maple sourness matched with apples and pears flavors. Very sweet, yet elegantly peaty. Light oxidation note hits the palate. Has this one not held up as well as the 2000? I may believe so. It remains highly carbonated, foamy even in its liqurous texture comprising a good alcohol dash at the end. Lightly acidic, very yeasty, almost in a musty way. Less flavor integration than the 2000 really, it’s every bit as fruity in a pear skin fashion, but this heavy dryness is too much, cement like. Still a gracious offering though. Gracias CaptainCougar.

This is a cloudy coppery brew with a layer of carbonation on the side of the glass.Jesus, the nose is wonderfully complex. Some of it says vanilla, caramel candybar, some of it says fruit compote maybe even a bottle of wine.Flavor says wheat beer that has it’s hand in the barleywine jar.Wheat-like earthiness but in a subtle way as the fruity sweetness comes out nicely. This is a thick bogied brew.

Thanks to the enigmatic user Schroppfy for hooking me up with this elusive brew. Two Brothers, as usual, has created something interesting. Reeks of a fruit punch aroma, but the taste is all wheat, with bread and banana. Quite sweet and syrupy. Tastes like an amped up hefeweizen with boatloads of alcohol only partially hidden by the sweetness. Too fizzy.

Peachy amber with an amazing amount of particulate matter. Intriguing nose, wheaty, malty, and spicy, bit like minted butterscotch. Flavor is rich and syrupy, nice punchy apple tartness with some wood and earthiness. Beautifully masked stuff, no hint of a 10%+ beverage. Finishes very dry, hardly any aftertaste. Kind of starts like a hefe, then picks up more of a caramel/wood aspect, nice transition. Not hugely complex stuff, but very nice and very drinkable.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2005 Pours a light orange with sediment and a thin light colored head. The aroma is bready with a slight lemony citrus and banana normally found in hefe’s. There is also some deep mushroom and earth. The taste has sweet apples, cherries, vanilla and a smooth orange. The finish is slightly dry. A nice sticky mouthfeel. My second wheat wine and I like it a lot too. Thanks a lot hey_kevin for sharing. This should answer Frank’s questions about aging wheat wines, DO IT!

Very carbonated, deep golden, with lots of floaties. Sweet syrupy aroma, some dusty hops. Very light bodied, very smooth on the tongue. Hints of hefe come and go, honeyish. Very elegant, not overy complex, but quite drinkable and doesn’t show a trace of alcohol for its 10.2% alcohol. Easily the best Two Brothers beer I’ve had.
