3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Indra (2476) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - DEC 16, 2010750ml bottle, 2006 vintage. Fruity, sweet, mildly spicy and tart aroma, with notes of white grape, lemon, pear, honeysuckle and faint bubblegum. Initial pour shows a clear orange-golden color with a lasting, fine, uneven head. Flavor profile is fruity, sharp and spicy, with hints of citrus, tropical fruit, floral perfume, faint bitterness, peppery alcohol and gently malty, showing hints of oak and earthiness. Gently acidic, warming and dry on the palate with plenty of effervescence, body is full but certainly not overly so. Relatively complex and tasty. This stuff has held up very nicely after 4+ years of cellar aging.

Has an interesting banana and clove type flavor not normally found in barleywines. The wheat flavor seems to give it a fuller body. Has an alcoholic burn to it. Might taste better with time, but not a huge fan.

Amber pour with almost no head, some white lacing. Nice carbonation, nose is fruity / floral. Taste is ok, a bit muddled with lots of flavors bouncing around.

375 ml corked and caged green bottle 2011 vintage poured a clear orange amber with a small lasting ivory head. Aromas of wheat, straw, carmel, apple, banana and light clove. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of wheat, straw, citrus, light clove and light earthiness with a smooth lingering straw finish.

Bottle, 2011 vintage. Medium orange-gold with fine particles in suspension despite a careful pour, and a thick dense off-white head that shows amazing retention until the last sip of a long-enjoyed glass. Aroma is sweet and fruity with light woody elements. Sticky fruit sweetness, melon and over-ripe peach, nearly syrupy but not quite, light spice, very little hops, and a pleasing mild tartness in the finish that saves this from becoming cloying. Soft mouthfeel. A pleasant sipper.

At Avery Strong Ale Fest 2013--hazy golden with a large foamy white head. Odd aroma with bubblegum and citric hoppiness with a golden grain undertone. Flavor is sweet and grainy with cereal tones alongside bubblegum and slight malty booziness.

2011 bottle into snifter. Apricot colored, not head, but lots of bubbles, seems highly carbonated. Aroma is very wheaty and sour, not very appealing. Taste is also very sour and lemony. I’m wondering if this bottle is infected. Its a bit lagery, not very good.

2012 Bottle 12.7 oz. Pours a interesting orangish hue with a small head and lots particles. Aroma is boozy with a strong bubble gum and clove scent and lots of fruity esters, smells like a crazy strong wit. Taste is cleaner than i expected, like a wit with a much thicker body, has a sweet edge to it, plenty of banana and clove. Really like this brew, would like to cellar a bottle.

At Boulder Strong Ale. Dark gold brown. Spicy belgian and banana nose. Suprised to see this classed as a barleywine...much more like a belgian tripel. Lots of spice. Solid but probably would improve with age.
3.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Guerde (1074) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - FEB 12, 2013
(2011 bottle) Pours a clear dark orange with a medium white head that retains well and leaves good lacing. The aroma is very poor, with predominant scents of must, light skunk, cardboard, and stale bread. Nothing is even remotely redeeming within the aroma, and upon first whiff I thought this was way past its prime. The flavor is a complete 180 from the aroma, and one is greeted with pleasant flavors of dried apricots, subtle banana, abundant caramel, light vanilla, sweet bread, and drying oak on the finish. Surprisingly tasty, and quite on par with another quality wheat wine in Boulevard’s Harvest Dance. Mouthfeel is full and carbonation is subdued. Light warming alcohol on the finish, but nothing stinging. Overall this is a real Jekyll and Hyde of a beer, as the aroma was appalling, yet the flavor was sublime.
