COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Circus Penguin is the first annual Brewer’s Choice artisan beer release. They choose it all from the ingredient to the name. This pale ale uses local, organic beets to lend a mild earthy character and pleasant hue. Then blood oranges were added to bolster the big citrus flavor and aroma of the hops. It’s a venerable circus in your mouth!

Bottle, shared with Parksy. Hazy orange amber pour with a lively white head. Aroma is initially a little earthy and sweaty, but as it airs and the head settles it becomes more aromatically appealing with brighter citrus notes. Light malt base, crackery, with light citrus and mild earthiness. I believe that the earthiness may be from the beets, but I would never truly peg beets as part of this flavour profile. Finish is moderately bitter. Nice brew.

22oz bottle from Country Fresh. Shared with friends while sitting around a fire pit. Hazy orange color. Thin white head. Good lace. Medium body. Smooth, more crisp carbonation, more dry finish. Nice blood orange flavor. Crisp fresh beet. Good light bitter taste. Some citrus hop. Light pepper, light bready malt. Interesting, tasty stuff.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a very softly carbonated hazy dark orange colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The almost non-existent aroma was cardboard. The bubbly mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a bubbly hoppy aftertaste. The bubbly flavor contained notes of dough hops and malt. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.

12/25/12. 22oz bomber thanks to my brother! Super hazy orange pour with lots of small particulates under a nice fluffy off-white head. Big citrus aroma with cream, pale malts, herbal qualities, and grainy malts. Citrus flavor as well with more cream and earthiness. Not bad.

Sample at the DBLDP on 09/02/2012: This beer is a hazy golden color with a medium fizzy white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Earthy malt, citrus and slight hops aroma. Light-bodied with flavors of toasted bread, sweet citrus and mild spices. The finish is short and fruity. Slightly above average overall.

Slightly hazy golden copper coloured body with a dense, two centimetre tall white head. Aroma of fresh grassy and herbal hops, a bit of orange and citrus and a little light malt - not very strong though. Medium-bodied; Assertive hoppy notes up front with a bitter herbal and metallic, almost medicinal flavour with a little citrus and harsh fruit flavour (must be the beets) with the defined blood orange and possibly grapefruity bitterness that rounds out well, but shows some harshness on the palate. Aftertaste is strong, but shows some good complexity and some interesting tastes that you don’t typically get. Overall, an interesting beer, but not very well executed - still nice to try because it’s rare, but not one i’m unhappy of never being able to find it again. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 02-July-2012 for US$5.65 sampled at home in Washington on 17-August-2012.

22oz bottle in a styrofoam cup. Pours copper with a lacy, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel and pale malts with a good amount of citrusy hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A really good pale ale.

Pours light orange with notes of fruit that drive into a pale ale with citrus nuances. Light easy finish.

Bottle. Poured clear orange copper color with a minimal frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Moderate bittersweet flavor with a moderate sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation and small particles. Good brew.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours hazy orange gold with a transient fizzy white head. Smell rather like light pitted fruit with some orange. Med body. Flavor is orange, with some earthiness. It’s hard to get the malt. It’s bitter. A little astringent. Wouldn’t get beet. It’s something like a strongly carbonated, highly hopped saison? Finishes dry and nicely bitter.

Bottle to snifter. Looks okay; bright-orange with little CO2 and thin lacing. Smells Pretty good; hops and citrus. Tastes Decent too; like orange candy. Mouthfeel is average. Good, not great.
