This French-style country ale is deep amber in color. With a toasty, sweet caramel start, it finishes with just enough hops to clean off the palate. Bon Appetit!

Had this on draught in Geneva, Illinois. Orangish-reddish pour with little head, quite malty although not much else. Somewhat dissapointing production coming from a great microbrewery.

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2005 Poured a reddish golden color with a nice, small head. Aroma is very earthy, flowery, with lots of sweet malt and a hint of white wine -- vinous you might say. Taste is malty, slightly toasty, with a nice sourness at the end. Hops are evident; dry & tingly mouthfeel. I thought this beer had a decently full body compared to the other bieres des gardes that I’ve tried. This was a really nice drink, appropriate for a warm mid-May Friday evening.

Pours copper color with not much head at all. Aroma is caramel malts and a touch of grapes. Tastes about the same as it smells. Starts out sweet then finishes slightly bitter and sour. Light and watery on the palate. Very unique flavor I guess when I bought this I didn’t know what to expect. I thought it would be more of an amber ale. It was a surprise indeed.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2007 RERATE 12oz bottle. Aroma is caramel and earthy, with very rich undertones of butterscotch. Taste is malty with caramel, biscut, and earthy hops flavors. A moderate bitterness in the finish. Has a little spice. Big bodied, but easy drinking and finishes balanced. 10.5oz glass. On tap @ hopleaf. Reddish color. Aroma is buttery caramel. Taste is buttery and caramel. Very full with a refreshing, slight bitterness and perfumy hops. Some lingering bitterness. This is the first beer I have had with this much diacetyl in it, very unique.

UPDATED: APR 25, 2005 Reddish amber color, very thin head. Rich malt toasted aroma with a fruity grape fragrance. A caramel sweet malt taste with enough bitter hops for a nice finish.

Red-copper look. little off white head. Dark chocolate, cookie dough, and nuts for aroma. Flavor at first is the same then a bit of flower and medium hops at the end. Very clean and tasty.

12oz bottle, BB 6/17/05...copper/amber color, fizzy head fades quickly...smells of rich carmel, malt, and some unique fruitiness, like grape skins or something earthy like that. Drinks with a medium body, goes down well, with carmelly malt dominating to the semi-sweet finish where some hops show up. Being the only American rendition of this style I’ve had, I’d say kudos to them for producing this beer. Its well done. Watch the fill levels on this one...I had one bottle that wasn’t even filled to the neck, and it was quite infected.

Large, off-white head. Settles sl;owly with light carbonation. Light aroma with a hint of roasted grains and berries. Color is a medium orage amber. Dry and floral flavor with more roasted grains and a slightly puckering sourness to the brew. Decent malt backbone. Dry and tart finish which is slightly gritty in the mouth. A decent brew. Thanks to Drnk_McDermott for this one.

I must not be into the biere de garde scene. I havent really had one I enjoyed that much. Well this one pour an amber color. It was very sticky and sweet with an orange and toffee flavor. BIg ol maltiness. One of the better of the style Ive had but nothing too amazing.
