3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I wasn’t so sure about this beer after my first sip, but it did begin to grow on me a bit as I went on. It was an odd brew, along the lines of a Belgian, but not quite there (and not quite as good).

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sort of a brown/orange color out of the bottle with a big, frothy white head. Very complicated aroma with spice, wood, some orange and celery and something a little earthy all in there. Dry on the palate. I notice the sourness right off, but balanced with some sweetness, toast, orange and something acidic. very nice sipping beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
It’s nice to see an American brewery attempt a biere de garde. It’s a nice attempt as well because in terms of style, this beer is dead on.
Aroma of sweet toasted malt, herbal hops, vines, apples and a hint of orange.
Dynamic and molded in it’s flavor profile. The malts are toasted throughout and at some points develop notes of butter, caramel and toffee. The hops are herbal and grassy. The malts are more scrumptious as it warms.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Slightly hazy amber color with not much head. Notes of orange, toffee, malt heartyness. The flavor is a bit more malty, and a bit less sweet. It starts off with a bit of roasted feel, then to a more bitter acidic flavor. It ends with a more citrus viscous feel. Not a bad beer, but a good beer to be drinking in autumn.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
First off, this is my first tasting of this style, so I have nothing to compare it to other than its merits. Pours a clear, light amber and a smallish head. A nice lactic, somewhat musty aroma. First thing hits the tastebuds is the sourness, with a rich, cheesy (in a good way) aftertaste. Body is somewhat thin, though, and mouthfeel is a bit too spritzy for my liking.
Not a bad beer and a very interesting style. Will try others like this, for sure.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a bright golden orange, medium white head. Aroma of toasted caramel, some hops. Pleasant biscuit and sweet malty flavor, citrus and caramel at times. A more American take on the biere de garde, close to an APA at times. Medium body, soft carbonation. A tasty brew.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cloudy amber, diminishing beige head. Aroma of yeast and lactic acid sourness. Flavor of caramel, some fruit, grass, and a good share of sourness. A light roastiness somehow comes through, slight shades of hojicha. Medium-bodied. I like it.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JUL 20, 2005 Kind of bland. Didn’t catch any of the flavors described in the commercial description. Glad I only bought a sixer... and was able to trade two of ’em.

Very dark and rich beer. Very toffee and caramely. I will have to try another pint next time I see it. Great brew despite the odd and incredibly long name. Sounds like a Pizza Parlor and a Wine thing before it sounds like a beer.

Nice hue when poured, the taste is okay but I’m glad I gave away two of the bottles from the sixer because I can see that I will have a few of these in the fridge for awhile.
