COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This French-style country ale is deep amber in color. With a toasty, sweet caramel start, it finishes with just enough hops to clean off the palate. Bon Appetit!

Ar: Very aromatic - strong initial caramel, followed by a roastiness
Ap: Orangish-brown hue, with soapy head that disappears quickly, leaving tracing on the glass. T: Heavy sweetness. Very slight bitterness at the end. I was hoping for a better hop bite. P: Almost syrupy, sticky sweet. Average-to-soft carbonation. O: I’ve had this beer recommended to me a number of times - it didn’t meet the high expectations I had for it, but not a bad brew. I bit sweet for my taste - I truly feel this beer would be better balanced with addition of some extra hops.

Bottle. Golden brown, thin white head. A little fizzy, but not much. Pleasant flavour, a bit fruity and unusual.

Caramel and bread notes in the nose. Crystal clear copper with white head. Nice lacing. Caramel and alcohol in the taste. A little too thin. And kinda boring finish.

On tap @ Beer Camp - Chicago. Pour is red/orange/brown with a very small off-white head that fades quickly. Aroma and flavor of sweet grain, heavy fruit, wheatgrass, and crackers.

Bottled. Pours a nice copper ruby color with a solid white beige head and lacing that leaves nice rim around the glass. Aroma is toasted malts, caramel, lots of sweetness. Little bit of hop undertones. Flavor is sweet caramel, some vanilla, little bit of hop citrus balance. Very malt forward. Flavor is a little bit more pleasant or at least complex than the aroma. Decent mouthfeel makes this refreshing without being bland. Not bad.

On tap at Sammy’s Gourmet Burgers & Beers, served in a shaker pint (not chilled, only due to my asking for it that way). A: Arrived in the glass a slightly cloudy deep amber, with a creamy, just off-white head. Said head left sheetlike lacing down the sides of the glass as I drank. Bubbles streamed continuously from the bottom of the beer. S: Unfortunately, due to the location, I couldn’t get much of the nose. What I was able to smell involved toast drizzled with honey as one sits amidst a freshly mown lawn. T: Much like what I detected from the nose, actually. This reminded me of mowing grass around a beehive overflowing with honey, near a bed of fragrant flowers and an open window out of which wafts fresh baking bread. What hop presence is there does not cut into the sweetness overmuch, allowing it to star. As the beer warms, some subtle spiciness emerges, hints of coriander and cardamom. M: Light in body and rather well carbonated, this drinks lively. O: A rather enjoyable biere de garde, which manages to provide a decent array of hop flavors without steamrollering the malt.

The beer pours a dark reddish orange color with a small, rapidly fading off-white head. The aroma isn’t terribly strong yet blends caramel and toasted malts with a hint of earthy hops and grains, and the taste is an interesting blend of mild sourness, slight bitterness, and slight umami. The aftertaste is quite grainy with the fullness of the malt bill lingering on the tongue. The palate fuses a soft carbonation that has a bite, medium body, and slick texture.
