4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
being a very malt oriented beer drinker, this is one of my favorite go-to beers. it reminds me of a more bitter version of the Theillier Cuivrée de Mormal from france. full bodied, slightly fruity, with massive malt character in aroma, flavor and body. there’s a nice caramel malt flavor and a touch of a sour tang in the finish. at about $2.25/bottle it’s a bargain for such a beer.

Coppery aroma. Carmel color with beautiful small bubble head which disappears quickly.
Surprisingly smooth taste considering the aroma. Almost like a caramel bock.

I'm a hophead by nature and tried this beer as I like their other brews. I just absolutely enjoy this beer. Semi-sweet caramel flavor and a light hop finish. Medium amber color and light head at the pour. This one just goes down damn easy.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tremendously hazy; medium carrot orange. Radiant. Nice finger of flat head. The haze is great.
Some biscuity malt. A little farmhouse spice. Mild flowery, perfumey hops. Very fragrant.
Sweet caramel initially, very mild and very nice. Second hit of a Belgian, champagne-like spice. As it warms, that toasted caramel comes back. Really great how it evolves.
Bubbly, fizzy, effervescent. Appropriate for style. Thick as well. Two thirds caramel, one third champagne. Impressive as hell.

12oz bottle into a tulip.
Pours a slightly hazy reddish-brown with an off-white one finger head. Head retention is not very good but lacing is excellent.
Caramel immediately jumps out in the aroma along with a little biscuit and toast. I can also detect a little bit of yeast, molasses, and wood.
The flavor really seems to have quite a bit going on. Caramel and molasses are very prominent in the flavor. A bit of roast and biscuit linger in the background with a very assertive bitterness coming in almost immediately and lingering throughout. Oddly enough I can pick up some raspberry and bubblegum notes buried deeply underneath, presumably coming from the yeast. Mouthfeel is quite light but finishes a bit sticky.
Overall, an impressive beer in a style that is not seen too often in the US. There is a lot of depth to this beer and a whole lot going on. Definitely one to pick up if you get the chance.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2003 Pours a beautiful light amber, with a great frothy head and lacing to match Belgiums' best. Clean, sweet caramel, toffee, hazlenut aromas. Thick and rich, yet soft and gentle. Wonderful complexity withouth exploding into too many flavors. I've been having heartburn lately, and this big beer won't stir up, or add on to any crazy acids in my beer belly. Incredibly malty right through to the end, but there is a bit of dry hops at the end to add to this enjoyment. A wonderful soft and maltily complex brew.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Sweet caramel and maltiness on the scent, the flavor seems to come though in the same way, a little more bitter than I was expecting. Not overly malty, but certainly more malty than hoppy. Solid mouthfeel. A bit of spice at the end, overall this is a tasty brew.

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
33 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA via Minneapolis. Drank one in the hotel, it was decent. Got home, poured it and drank it over a half hour period and it was amazing. The aroma deepened with each sip. caramel, grain and faint hops initially, opening up to deep earthy character. It continued to evolve as the glass was emptying. This was an exceptional beer, deserves a higher rating based on the aroma alone.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Earthy, almost sour, aroma with hints of alcohol.
Color: Sparkling orange with a thick, white head.
Taste: Light sweetness balanced by a medium sourness that slowly fades to hints of saltiness in the finish. Really complex and layered.
Palate: Medium-full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, long finish.
Overall: This is an odd and complex beer, and one that I have trouble nailing down. Perhaps it’s the style. That being said, I enjoyed it, and the taste stood out. I wasn’t overwhelmed, but it certainly caught my attention.
