3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 11, 2005 Bottled. Great stuff. Nice malty aroma behind a head that disappears a little too quickly. Taste of orange and some light spiciness comes through, finishes off with a note of red wine.
Re-rate, 4/10/05. Okay, this was one of my earlier ratings, and I finally had a second bottle from my original sixer (others have gone out in trade). My impressions still hold true, but it’s just not worth the 4.1 I first assigned. A slight note of brett mars the second sampling, but this is a two-year old bottle. I had taken the name of the style literally and was cellaring it outside my fridge, probably not a good idea for a 5.9% beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Beautiful dark, red-orange, almost mahogany, coloration, minimal white head and lacing. Smells of caramel, toffee, some roasted grain notes, slightly grassy. Predominantly sweet, fair amount of bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fair amount of acidity, some oiliness. Pretty good.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Light, apple, some yeast, sweet malts. Toffee and caramel dominate the front end of the beer, with a fading finish that never gets the yeast out around to the front of the palate.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle with a 20 June 2014 date stamped on the label.
Pours clear, medium-dark amber with a creamy tan head that has good durability and leaves fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma is malty with faint hints of vanilla and spices.
The flavor features a solid, medium malt base with hints of herbs, orange and grapefruit. Changes with warming.
Medium body with very fine, soft, medium-high carbonation.
O: Refreshing. An interesting, easy drinking and complex brown ale.

Was introduced to this beer on draft at Publik House in Peoria IL. I really enjoyed it there. Decided to pick up 6 bottles for home and have been less than impressed with the overall flavor.
