3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: FEB 26, 2006 New rating, 2/26/06. Got a fresher bottle this time (best by 1/30/06), so let’s recheck this pup: I can see I was seduced then by malts that get concentrated with age. This one pours a darker gold color, and a bit more haze than in most American iterations of a weizen. Big banana nose at pour, but not much in the glass, just a sprightly wheat character under a fluffy, short-lived head, poured into a 12-oz. weizen glass. Banana comes back in the taste, with mild notes of clove, and a touch of bubble-gum and vanilla. Not quite the heady feeling I get when drinking a properly-presented Hacker-Pschorr, but I think real Hefeweizen fans will enjoy it.

Another 3-year-old bottle from my stash, so this is a review of how well it ages, which a weiss is not meant to do.
A slight flowery nose when opened, then pours a dark weiss color, with a little less than standard haziness. The spicy flavor has subsided, leaving the malt to deepen to an almost syrupy richness. Hop flavor is subtle, more to make the alcohol feel a little warmer. Taste is well out of the style profile, but ages to a fine beer nonetheless.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Just found my notes on this. This was received in a trade with my cousin-in-law who lives in the Chicago area.
Obviously, this was poured into a weizen glass.
The appearance was a decent looking hazy orange color with a decent looking one and a half finger-ed white foamy head that once it died, there was barely any lacing.
The smell had some apple/peach/banana-ness that was combined into a yeasty/estery/breadiness. Interesting, but unexpected.
The taste was fairly sweet with the previously mentioned flavors.
On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium in body with a pretty good sessionability running about it. The carbonation is exceptionally smooth and subdued. This is not bad for the style and good for me.
Overall, honestly, its not a bad beer, it just seems a bit different to me and I’m unsure if I’d actually have it again. Maybe if offered, but I probably wouldn’t seek it.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On draft at World if Beer in Tioga. Highly recommended by the waitress. Pours slightly cloudy yellow with a fluffy white head as expected for the style. Aroma is banana, clove, wheat malt, spicy and grassy hop presence. Flavor follows he aroma closely with big banana and clove notes on top of what is a slightly watered down wheat malt base. Could use a bit more flavor punch. Body is light with adequate plus carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel and finish. Overall all the hefe flavors are there but there’s something missing from this that I can’t put my finger on. Nonetheless a solid brew to have on a hot and humid Florida day out on the patio.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Two Brothers Ebels Weiss Beer misses the mark for this style. Lemony fruit aroma rising from a fizzy head and a hazy orange-yellow pour. The head disappears quickly -- disappointing given the hallmark of a Hefeweizen is a thick, fluffy white head. Taste is the expected combination of banana and cloves with some lemony notes. Finish is an uncharacteristic fizziness (much like a soft drink) that just doesn’t fit. Ebel’s Weiss might be different on tap, but it sure didn’t pour well out a bottle. It has potential but needs better execution.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pint pour at Republic in Uptown. Unbelievably good value at $3. Golden, slightly hazy color. Nice, lazy head with small but noticeable lacing. Wow, banana and more banana. Never tasted a hefe with so much banana. End is relatively OK but I’m not sure I can drink this one again. Like a beer fueled banana laffy taffy party.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Momo’s Pizza - on tap. Hazy medium golden with a sticky snow white head; nice web of lacing. Cloves and bananas in the aroma. Hearty flavor with nice coriander accents, some bubblegum sweetness, a touch of cloves. Rib sticking mouthfeel. Solid hefe - been awhile since I had one.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap from ABC store in Fort Lauderdale. Pours a semi-clear gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is baked bananas, citrus and sweet fruit in the background. Taste is sweet overripe bananas, cloves, vanilla and some citrus. Palate is smooth and not tart like most North American versions of this German Classic. A good example of this beer style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle which reads best by 2-26-14 - so according to the brewer, I’m having this one past it’s prime. Orange, clove, and light yeasty wheat malt aroma. Hazy golden yellow with a small to moderate white head. Orange/banana, yeasty wheat, and slight clove flavor. Body on the light side of medium, lively carbonation.
